I would certainly prefer McBurnie. I see similarities in Maupay with Sharp in terms of the types of goals he scores which isn't a negative at all but McBurnie scores a variety of different goals whether it's from cross, running in behind or driving at defenders and getting a shot off. He's comfortable at striking with both feet and scored some brilliant headed goals last season as well. I think there may be more excitement around Maupay than Mcburnie because he's French and some would like to see some foreign players coming in but for me, McBurnie is the better player of the two.

I'm not understanding the Maupay hype at the moment and I don't think he's worth the reported transfer fee (he's only had one good season) ...that said, he's the perfect replacement for Sharp in our system, so I'd see it as a 'planning for the future' signing, which I can totally get behind.

Think we should crack on trying to sort this signing out if he is our target.

Maupay is probably 99% dead in the water if we’re facing competition from establish PL clubs or the likes of villa who have no concept of £££s.

But that’s the market - we’ve tried our hardest

We should be pulling out all the stops jn trying to get the McBurnie signing wrapped up in the next few days if possible, then turn our attentions to Maupay. If the latter doesn't come off then its not a disaster as i think we already have the better player (for us) in the keep net.

Gayle at Newcastle would be another player who i think would be a great signing for us, and who would fit more in line with the Maupay playing style profile rather than McBurnie's style. McBurnie has a bit of a unique style and would be a terrific player for us. He's always been the one i really wanted us to sign, even throughout last season. He caused us problems each game.

I genuinely think we’re in for both, not one in case the other doesn’t happen, and believe we would spent £25 million upfront with add ons. The only thing stopping both would be the players opt for us and if Swansea are serious with the 20m they put out in the press, which is nonsense.
I hope you are right but I just can’t imagine we are realistically trying for both, firstly it would probably be north of £32m to sign both and I just can’t imagine we have that much available and secondly i just think at least one of them will be snapped up by someone else. Perhaps I’ve been a Blades too long ☹️ UTB

If Villa have a poor start to the season I can’t see Smith getting the chop and Villa being this years Fulham 🤞UTB

That wasn’t what fucked our season up, although it didn’t help. Warnock fucked our season up.

No the lack of investment was the main fuck up it was clear as day that we needed another quality striker to go with Hulse as soon as Hulse got injured it was game over.

We definitely need two more don’t we? How much will the alternative second man cost? Will the saving be worth Wilder not getting the two he actually wants? We know the names.

For example, I’d pay twice as much for Maupay as I would for the battered old Austin...

Views on Roofe? Or is he damned for playing for dirty corrupt Leeds ? :)

Trevor Birch eh? Just low ball them with the first offer and he’ll snap United’s hand off.

He’s there to carry out an asset strip whilst wearing a smile, just like his job at the Lane.
To be fair, they got 15m for James who they sold to Man U and he's already looking like one of their better players!

I think 15m is a very reasonable offer.

Reject that and I don't know how they make the shortfall up they are supposed to be meeting.

I think we might be waiting for Swansea to get desperate with this one, in the hope that they secretly need to sell and thus far nobody has shown any interest. We might be hoping to get it done for £10-12m with add ons late on or something like that.

Only issue I see with this is that - before Swansea get desperate, another Premier League Club might. Possibly one of the teams that miss out on Maupay. I’d rather we quickly moved on from Maupay now and put our efforts into McBurnie, although I’m sure Wilder has given NM a deadline which he will work to.

It is an interesting one, especially if we go in with a "take it or leave it" offer......if it is a realistic bid/package and they turn it down they could end up with a very unhappy player on their hands and the thing is with McBurnie I'm not sure, apart from Brighton, (but if Potter wanted him he would surely already be there) that he would appeal to as many Premier League sides as Maupay for example......McB is certainly not your typical striker and in the top flight he could well crash and burn or indeed end up like a Peter Crouch type...

From what I understand we are active on both and could actually end up with both for the right price

That's not from any info I've got - that's just from reading along the lines of Cadette's posts

Swansea need to balance the books this may run till the end of the transfer window Mcburnie is understood to want to come to his native Yorkshire 12 million plus add on s for me

I think I'm in the McBurnie over Maupay club, if pushed. I'd love us to get both, but I think McBurnie's size and power will be more useful in the short-term at least. Maupay is similar to Sharp and whilst Sharp is in the twilight of his career, we can still get a season out of him at the very least. We do not have a McBurnie type player in the squad at all.
