Does anyone else think that we need to get this one done quickly? With less than a month to go till the start of the season I'm worried that if we leave our signings too late not only do we risk losing them to other clubs but surely it will effect the chemistry within the team.

Don't think they are in a position where they need to sell him nor is he making any noises that he wants to leave which makes it difficult. Unless he tells them he wants the move I can't see them accepting anything below there evaluation which will be a big one. We definitely won't be the only Prem club showing interest either.

I think you are spot on with your point of view but we are currently short two ST's. If the likes of McBurnie and Maupay are out of our price range (at the prices set by their respective clubs) then we need to move on a look at other options. The squad needs time to gel. I really do hope we get both targets though

So long as the players we're looking at are having a good pre-season, I don't think there's any need to worry yet...bear in mind most of our pre-season has been conditioning/fitness work thus far.

In regards to chemistry, I think this can be built reasonably quickly with the correct blend of players...for example Madine and Sharp seemed to work straight away last season, with no pre-season together, and having never played together before. I think a couple of weeks together before the season starts should be fine, if we sign the right players.

That said - If it gets to the end of next week and we're still in the same boat, then I'd start to feel a little concerned too, as I feel we need at least 5 new signings.

My number 1 choice too out of those we've been realistically linked with.

Just hope we can get our targets over the line as we'll have no choice but to effectively panic buy if we reach the last week of the window without, as we simply don't have the numbers already.

How do we know what noises he and his leech are making. The chances of him not wanting a move to the Premier League and not making that clear in private are negligible aren’t they?

Stumbled into some (irrelevant) info on McBurnie. Apparently he’s spent a quarter of a million quid on holidays this summer, jetting his mates out to various different places. At least he’s as dedicated to the lash as we are, I guess.

Spending his signing on fee upfront. He must be confident he's going to be a Blade.

Nixon in the Sun talking opposite way around to Richard Cadette:

Says we are to make a final £15m bid for OM.

The back up plan is to go for Maupay if Swansea hold out for £20m but faces competition from Villa and West Brom if the OM bid fails

Interesting to have the more in demand player as your backup. It would seem arse about tit to the average football follower.

Nixon has been peddling the story for a while now. I think there’s something in it, especially as most media in Wales have picked up our interest.

I think honestly Wilder’s in for both McB and Maupay. We need goals and options up front to stay up. Unlike last time where we only had Hulse.

I think we're in for both, but I don't expect them both to sign, roughly £30m. If I had to choose I would go for mcburnie, just think we're lacking a forward with his build/skill set, but that's just me. If we got both that would be brilliant. However I can see maybe the 2nd loan maybe being a striker similar to whichever one we don't sign.

Nixon will get most of his info from agents. The same agents banging the drum with other media.

I have no doubt that we're in for OM, but I imagine he's pushing hardest for the move and it's his agent effectively keeping it alive while trying to get other clubs interested.

Bump. I'm commenting on this just to draw attention away from another thread that has become infested by bees. It's for our own good. Let's just talk about McBurnie for a bit and maybe it will be a welcome distraction for us all.
I'd rather us sign Mcburnie anyway.

Trevor Birch. Delivering the kiss of death to every club he touches...

Nixon in this mornings rag saying Blades hoping to get their #1 target McBurnie for £15m

Trevor Birch at Swansea however wants to clear their debt and wants £20m

People this morning also repeats yesterdays Mirror article that CW wants both Maupay and McBurnie for £30m

I genuinely think we’re in for both, not one in case the other doesn’t happen, and believe we would spent £25 million upfront with add ons. The only thing stopping both would be the players opt for us and if Swansea are serious with the 20m they put out in the press, which is nonsense.

I have had a feeling all Summer that Maupay would probably rather join a different Premier League club to us, hence the delays in his decision at the point in time where it seemed we were the only club with a firm interest. Given that he now has other Premiership offers, I think it’s now unlikely we’ll be able to sign him.

McBurnie on the other hand has seemed keen to join. Has expressed a desire to move North and has been in a lot of dialogue with Wilder (source - RC). He’s a good age, seems a good character that would fit in well with the rest of our squad, he has good attributes (attributes our squad doesn’t currently possess) and is one that I’d really like us to go for. If Brighton miss out on Maupay they would probably come in for him, but I think we’d have a reasonable chance of competing against them.

That seems fair and balanced. Would still like both though.

I would certainly prefer McBurnie. I see similarities in Maupay with Sharp in terms of the types of goals he scores which isn't a negative at all but McBurnie scores a variety of different goals whether it's from cross, running in behind or driving at defenders and getting a shot off. He's comfortable at striking with both feet and scored some brilliant headed goals last season as well. I think there may be more excitement around Maupay than Mcburnie because he's French and some would like to see some foreign players coming in but for me, McBurnie is the better player of the two.
