Wow, talk about Chinese Whispers. There was a non story the other day about Blackburn being interested in Whiteman. The gist of the piece was that we were monitoring it as we have a sell on as part of the deal with Donny.
Give it another 24 hours and we'd be paying 18m for him with Berge going as part of the deal.

Just a long day bud, usually go in depth. Don't think Watkins is out of our price range either for what it's worth, he'd improve us and would make a good pairing with MCB, play the ball to feet and have him run the channels.

I think it's worth remembering (before the wrist slitting starts) that the "low hanging fruit" signings are gonna be the first in. Everyone is chasing quality and we're just one of those teams. We have to be canny in the transfer market and keep things very low key, or shall we just spunk fucking millions by machine gunning £20m here there and everywhere??
We're hardly going to come out and announce who we're after - I'm sure our management team know exactly what we need, and I am confident they'll get their targets.
Let's leave the bed wetting until after the transfer window has closed.

Sorry mate, I hope you didn't think I was being sarcastic? I thought your post was on the money. Agree about Watkins too as he is versatile, can drop deep and do Didsy's role, go wide and and play down the middle - like DCL for Everton.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but I think Jack Lester was Forest U18 coach when Burke and Cash came through.
I get the feeling Burke will be the Matty Cash alternative, earmarked for RWB competition. Can't see where else he'd fit in our system and seems that's where he's played this season (mainly off the bench).

It is interesting this. So, had we been linked with a skillful Spanish youngster with great pace who had played 30 games in La Liga last season to favourable reviews, I wonder what the reaction would have been? Even if he had previously lost his way somewhat.
As you say, he's just done a full season in one of the top divisions in the world, and many of us are baulking at the idea of bringing him in.

Burke was also signed by Leipzig, who tend to know how to spot a decent player.

So right now we’re no weaker than we were last season and tying Bash and Egan down is obviously a huge positive.
We've also been linked with Cash which would further strengthen as well as Cantwell, Burke, Watkins, Dennis, Swift, and Holden.
Well Norwich hadn’t just finished top 10. However,
in the summer window we signed Robinson, Freeman, Moose, and McBurnie for around £30m.
Berge was in Jan and as mentioned at the time was signed using some of the summer budget.
So far this summer we’ve signed Ramsdale so we’re on our way to at least matching that with rumoured £10-15m in for Cash we certainly aren’t going to come up short.
I personally think we’ll still top what we spent last summer however if quality players can be found in the lower leagues cheaply of course we should look at them.

Villa will spend close to £100m again this summer.
They’ll get this deal done and then go for the two from Brentford. We’re not competing anywhere near that pool.

And both Celtic and Leipzig have said the same about is true of this speedy-boy.
From what I can gather from Twitter, Alaves fans’d have him back no q’s asked (but their bid was rejected), and Trabzonspor were spaffing their spuds at the prospect of getting him.
Overall: I think I might just be a bit a bit thick and easily impressed by a bulky man running fast.

Here's the downside: 14 starts 17 sub appearances 1 goal for Alaves. OK maybe he brings more to the game? No have a look at his highlights reel it's laughable; bit of skill no end product, either a weak shot, a wayward shot, a poor pass, etc
edit: Fairs fair the highlights are 4 years old but the stats tend to back up he flatters to deceive.

Interesting comments on here! I can see why some fans are saying why, and he's not good enough etc. However, I don't know if our fans have clicked yet, but our budget has been significantly cut, not so much now but over the next few years the impact will be considerable and we have to cut our cloth accordingly. We can't just go out and cherry pick a £15-20m player for every position like we all would want. Also our wage budget means we can't afford or attract many players that are in the £15-20m bracket or above and even if we can there' every chance that there's another club with more money also in the race for the higher profile players from the Championship (Villa!) like Watkins and Cash or wherever really.
So in Oliver Burke you have a player who has been considered one of the best young players in recent years from the Championship and he's not gone on to fulfil that potential yet. He has many good qualities that we don't have in abundance such as pace, skill and strength with it. He can play in more than one position, although nor sure which is his best in our system.
As for those saying we should keep Robinson. He's not proved to be good enough at the end of the day and Wst Brom played him not on the wing or up front but on their bench for most of his time there. He might prove us wrong and he's got some quality but good enough for the Prem to make a real impact for us? Not so sure there, if Wilder wants Burke and is willing to let Robinson go then I'd rather have a player that could be good enough, for one that is likely not to be good enough - based on Robinson's performances last season, he's 25 now and not one to keep on the sidelines to develop as he should at that age really be a starter. I think back to Burke that people forget just how highly rated he was coming through at Forest, he's not fulfilled it as I say but the potential is similar to David Brooks. I definitely think he'd be an exciting addition and probably one of the few players with that level of quality that we could afford and who would want to come. He's also played in Germany and Spain's top divisions ans must have learned something in those two spells and seems to have done reasonably well last season, not the failure some would have us believe on here. Out of interest, how many other players in our squad have played in La Liga and the Bundesliga?
Finally, how many times, both before Wilder, and with Wilder, have we signed players an thought what's he see in him and then they've gone on to be Blades favourites! Remember how our fans thought Coutts, Kieran Freeman, Lundstram were crap, and why we were we signing McGoldrick, 30, injured all the time and released by Ipswich! The rest, as we know, is history!

Their physicality is something you obviously can't teach. If and when it clicks, you've got a real player on your hands.
When we signed Mousset, it was immediately clear that his strength and pace would cause problems for defenders. We need more players like that; we either pay ridiculous fees for the finished product, or we take a chance on players like Burke.

Bang on, with the start of the season looming the squad looks thread bare. Might be no ones moving until all competitions are finished and the cherry picking of the top players start. That said we were shopping at M&S, dropped to Tesco finest and now seem to be at Morrison’s for our cherry’s. I’m hoping (but not expecting) to get a Waitrose delivery via the back door.
Other grocery suppliers are available.
