But all these managers wanted to get him in the side some way or another did they not? That tells you something

He (apparently, I can’t understand Spanish) had a good spell at Alaves last season. Let’s see what we’re getting before writing him off.

The fact that Kieron Freeman is miles off the standard required and the fact that Oli Burke has just had a good season in La Liga, has accumulated transfer fees of 30m by the age of 23 and has experience in many positions.

He might be, he might not. But he’s certainly worth a punt.

We’ve already shelled out close to £100m on players in just over 12 months (full cost of transfer) and yet we still can’t compete anywhere near other premier league sides other than maybe West Brom with wages. Therefore we still need to try and seek value and the type of player who will over achieve and have to prove themselves.

We are still many years and realistically new ownership away from competing at that level.

Burke for Robinson? Would be a bit... meh. Neither have been any good in the Prem when they’ve played. Like for like I guess.

How do you you qualify a good season in la liga? & what has Freeman done wrong last season or the season before to prove he isn't good enough? When you consider trying to get a Baldock back up who is going to sit on the bench and not complain for our wage structure and knows our system is not going to be easy. Nothing I've seen with Burke suggests he can play defensively, so I wouldn't suggest him for wing back, squad player and option going forward maybe, but I'm not convinced

One where you make 30 odd appearances and have generally good feedback from the fans

We’ve either got plans for him to play upfront or at wing back with his history as a winger and appearances at full back. It’s not exactly the most mind bending solution is it?

1 goal and 2 assists is a good season apparently.

We’re splitting hairs here. He said he was a better bet, which tbf isn’t exactly hard given Wilder has already as good as written Kieron Freeman off as a Premier League player for us. At least with Oli Burke there’s some potential. Hence being a better bet.

God we need some proper transfer action dont we.

Not everything, but since neither of us have been watching Oliver Burke it’s hard to judge. McGoldrick certainly had a better season than Burke.

it's not mind bending no. It's just if someone said Oliver Burke was the answer to our reserve wingback issue I would normally suggest they were smoking crack, sorry but I would!

I’d rather have him that Freeman if they’re our choices. That’s for sure.
 
I've only seen him play couple of times, I think. Once was for Scotland against Russia. He was the only Scotland player (John Fleck included) who caused Russia anything resembling a problem.

Something about him. Wouldn't be against it at all.

Burke is rotten. All pace and no brains. If you want a player than can race into the box then trip over his own legs he's your man.

You posed the question whether McGoldrick has had a good season. Yes he has, and with better stats to boot than Burke, in a harder league. Thus it’s pretty obvious.

Why is everyone getting bent out of shape about this? We all know wilder likes a gamble on a player that could become a world beater and this is no different. Let Wilder and the team do their job. They know what we need and we needs some big signings and some squad / bench fillers. I fully expect 2/3 signings in each category.

You’ve not seen Burke by your own admission. Nor have I. I don’t know how we could possibly suggest he’s had a better or worse season than David McGoldrick. It’s an odd thing to say. One has played on the wing all season, ones played upfront and scored 1 more goal (underachieving his xG by about 8). It’s apples and oranges.

And is it really a harder division? The record of our top teams in Europe compared to their Spanish counterparts in recent years contradicts that argument.

We need to add quality. Extending the contracts of players who are past their best and signing the likes of Burke (if it happens) are not what you’d expect of a Prem League club.
 
If we get him I just hope we play him in his actual positions of Winger/wingback. But I feel this is Episode 4 in the "Signing a winger and trying to make them a centre forward" project. Chapman, Thomas, Robinson and potentially Burke. :p 😂 One day it will work for Wilder and the lads.
 
Not seen Burke for a few years so difficult to comment

What I will say is if CW is serious about taking the squad to the next level then neither player inspires me

But then as usual, in CW we trust
 

What I will also say is that his pace may create chances for the striker(s)

Let’s hope we are still after a striker(s) and not relying on Burke to get the goals
