i don't like to see 'old' bands actually. i like to see them in my minds eye at their peak. Killing Joke being the exception of course because up until recently they were still kicking arse

Turn-Ups, I remember that place. There were quite a few out-of-town night clubs before they changed the licensing laws. Others have been mentioned already, Fanny's up at Dore and Climaxx 2000 in The Dronx, which still exists as "Climax Fishing Tackle"

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Queens Rd Club, The Railway Club (now Farm Rd Club) or the Olive Grove pub on this thread. Or maybe even the old Jervis Lumb at the bottom of Norfolk Park.
My wedding do was held in Olive Grove, which, along with Ball on Myrtle Road, were my first locals.
Olive had good disco nights Monday & Thursdays in early 70's, came from miles around, full of ladies too!
Norfolk Park run around that time was Jervis Lum, Horse & Lion, Felbrigg & Captive Queen.

First blades pub I went in Truro tavern ,my dad would meet his steel working blades mates in there before the matches ,I'd be sat in a corner pop and crisps thinking I'm having some of this when I'm older .went on to become a furnace bricklayer at firth Browns and a mad blade .

All gone now.

All gone now.

All local to me too.

There was also the Midhill Club (Now the Earl Marshall). They used to have strippers on a Sunday lunch time and I remember as a kid trying to peek in (they drew the curtains) when we were supposed to be playing football...

Now we're casting the net wider! The Wicker was a legendary crawl. Big Gun, Brown Cow, Hole in the Wall, Lady's Bridge, Station, Viaduct. Any more?[/QUOTE]
Afro Carribean Club we used to get mistaken for udercover coppers.... no idea why!!!

Not seen the Sheaf View at Heeley mentioned. Good Alehouse very popular pre match. Not sure is Shakespeare is still there.

My dad used to take me Sundays after Id played football ,it was like a military operation ,Crookes Club ,Philadelphia ,Niagara and Dog and Partridge. Pint in each and they would hand out Yorkshire puddings and dripping cakes ,then home to tell my Mum a right load of cobblers. Sometimes you would see the same stripper and she would say hello :) I loved Sundays.

After a very hot amble home, I can confirm that the Golden Lion is open. Unfortunately, it was advertising cheap Carlsberg so I fear that not only has the beer selection not improved, the lager selection has worsened.

Will have a proper recce at some point before the season.

Dear God, even the Sheaf House can do better than Carlsberg etc, Farmers Blonde was on towards the end of last season a big improvement on the IPA shite from Ipswich way.

Had some bolloxs with Jordo lads then Froggatts , Fidler and Waterfalls
heh .. i used to live on Jordo.. went to school with them.. (Rowlinson).. nice lads if you were on the right side of the argument
i was fucking terrified of them :D

If you went to Rowlinson around that time, you should remember a lot of the Gleadless Valley/John O' Gaunt lads who used to go there, Martin "Wombat" Williams, Glen Gregory (not the the Heaven 17 one), Dave Wright, Alan Windle, etc. Wombat was a real hard nut!

they're a couple of years above me.. as are the Frogatts and Alec Fidler actually but i know them from the estate.. i've heard great tales of 'wombat' though. the guy was an urban legend ;)
i dunno if paul waterfall had an older brother of that age as that would make him younger than them. .i think he had an older sister

Glen Gregory, done all our tiling for the last 30 years, good at it too.
His brother Paul was a decent footballer.
