Here's one from out there in the world of weird and wonderful...vending machines. They came in all shapes and sizes and dispensed everything from coal, eggs, weed and a whole host of stuff other than the cigarettes and rubber johnnies of my youth...

Egg-o-matic sounds like something from Wallace & Gromit.

Continuing the Lou Macari theme - his chippy by Old Trafford.

I remember his son playing for us and think that Lou also had a role at United (scout or something similar?). Mid to late 90s.

His dad came over from Italy to run a chippy in Glasgow, Scotland fans will be thankful for him!

Thanks for posting that. I don’t think I saw that at the time. It conveys his personality really well. He loved football, loved footballers, had a sense of humour (the bet with Greaves), and was a good judge of footballers. His sense of viewing Greaves as a challenge rings true: Hodgy loved diving at the feet of players running in on goal, Greaves was the master of outwitting the keeper in those situations. They will both have enjoyed the challenge, and respected their opponent. I found that a great reminder of my favourite footballer.

Greaves often scored against us but never won a match at Bramall Lane. The only time Spurs won a match at Bramall Lane during the 1960s was in December 1965 and Greaves didn't play.

You’re welcome 👍

I'm not sure if I've mentioned it before, but I met him in the earky 90s, at his home near Rugby. His daughter had been my wife's best mate in the 70s, until he moved away to Gillingham. I sat and chatted footy bollocks with him for an hour or so, and he was a lovely bloke. Although not officially Man United's goalkeeping coach by then, he still had SAF's ear and old red nose would still get him to help with keepers and assessing possible signings. He did say that despite the taciturn image, Fergie was actually a great bloke to work with, one he trusted you.

Despite never having previously met me, he was open friendly and happy to chat away. Thry say 'never meet your heroes', but I'd happily say that isn't always true.

RIP
