My direct dealing with him was when I was a youngster. He and Gerry Summers were doing some coaching qualifications, and came to coach our school 1st and 2nd teams for 6 weeks. As first team goalie, I had 6 weeks of coaching from the great man, and loved every minute of it. A very positive individual. I always felt I should have contacted him in later life to say that he was in no way to blame for the fact that my career progressed no higher than the Sheffield Friendlies LeagueI'm not sure if I've mentioned it before, but I met him in the earky 90s, at his home near Rugby. His daughter had been my wife's best mate in the 70s, until he moved away to Gillingham. I sat and chatted footy bollocks with him for an hour or so, and he was a lovely bloke. Although not officially Man United's goalkeeping coach by then, he still had SAF's ear and old red nose would still get him to help with keepers and assessing possible signings. He did say that despite the taciturn image, Fergie was actually a great bloke to work with, one he trusted you.
Despite never having previously met me, he was open friendly and happy to chat away. Thry say 'never meet your heroes', but I'd happily say that isn't always true.
RIP
Bert went to White Hart Lane a few times.Bert.
I think East Stand at White Heart Lane had The Shelve, where it was a great view. What tier was I in? I have never been to white Hart Lane.
Off the subject, apparently Spurs were playing at Sheff Wed, The Legendary Jimmy Greaves was playing Wednesday full back, Kenny Burton, fouled Him. Then Kenny Burton said, "I'm sorry, Mr Greaves," to the merriment of Jimmy Greaves and the Spurs players. Article in the Times Newspaper.
I will try to find it and post it here later.

Bert went to White Hart Lane a few times.
He's sat in the East Stand, stood on the Shelf and stood on the Park Lane end.
The Shelf was the middle section of the East Stand.
In Bert's mind the best stand in the land.
