I completely agree, and I know I post some completely random crap on here but it doesn't say anywhere that it has to be Blades or football related so I hope no one is offended by my meanderings into craziness on occasion...

Like the bit about the Pigs inundating the ticket office for season tickets. Well must have sold millions cos they managed to average 10000.

Fake news!

They averaged over 100k as soon as Charlton came along and went on to dominate the First Division in the 80s, under Wilkinson, regularly getting crowds of over 500,000.

There is no truth in Wilkinson's statement, as he left them in D1, to join Dirty Leeds in D2, that he wanted to 'better himself'.

That must have been the 1977 season. I remember the pre-season friendly they had against Frickley Colliery when 1'283'000 were admitted into the stadium, still the most MASSIVE crowd ever in the whole wide world for a pre-season game. I understand there were over 9 million trying to get tickets as well as I lived in Shiregreen at the time, about 5 miles from the Sty and they were queueing past my house on Oaks Fold Road, all the way down past the Penguin, along Wooley Wood bottom and just past Blackburn Meadows sewage farm. Apparently, some of the disgruntled supporters built Meadowhall while they were queuing but I can't find verification for that.

Anyway, as we know they won the European Cup that season, and the Premier League (even though it didn't exist), the World Cup and the reserves won the Central League. I think they beat us 27 - 0 in the County Cup as well, cunts!

Pictured below is 'Big' Jack with Mel (Meldus) Steelhead and whose nickname was Zonko, after the Russian clown, famous for his big red nose, curly hair and an IQ in single digits.

What a time to be alive, what a time to be a Pig. No wonder we're always in their shadow 😵😵😵

My old school, Fifth Park, Brushes building. I loved that place, lovely wooden staircases, hidden passageways, and a proper old stately home sort of place. Then that bastard Godzilla came along...

I can still smell this building, Mr Lynn, taking English in the tower in Autumn, reading ghost stories, legendary! Then it mysterious;y got burnt to the ground……

I have a thing about large areas of standing water, driving over the wall at dam Flask and seeing the drain plug is way more scary than being chased around St Andrews by 300 Zulus. No idea why, but I put myself through this torture by looking at stuff like this. The construction of the Hoover Dam, and at low water level you can see just how much volume it must hold when it's full...

Harry Haslam at Bramall Lane, Gentleman John Harris (inexplicably) at Hillsborough. What could possibly go wrong?View attachment 227663
Dave Grant, pictured in the Wednesday strip.

Lowedges born and bred and a great lad, Blades fan too !

Used to see him knocking about regularly but not seen him in donkeys years, hope he’s ok if anyone still sees him ?

View attachment 227778Thoughts on this? Pretty sure it’s from United’s cup run in 1901. Thoughts? Harry Johnson second from left?

Not sure of location or opposition.

UTB
Definitely United? Initial thoughts based purely on the oppositions kit was the semi final in 1899 against Liverpool. I’m useless on side profiles for the old players though so only one I can think of that resembles the one on the left based purely on his hairline and tashless is Thickett but I don’t think it’s him. Same for second left, if I had to guess I’d have said Bennett but again don’t think it’s him.

I attended Brinsworth High School in the 70's and we played against the school where Dave Grant was in their football team. (Lowedges?)
We got hammered 10-1 and he scored all ten. No wonder he went on to be a professional, he was a reyt player.

Yeah, it’s difficult. Others in this postcard series are scenes from the 1901 final (see this one). I’m not sure about the one above because the opposition clearly aren’t Spurs. It’s postmarked 1903.

I thought Harry Johnson might be a reasonable guess for second from left!

Could well be Johnson, side profiles are really tough imo with these old pics because there isn’t many side profile pics to go on as evidence, the player in question seems to have a gaunt face with a prominent high cheek bone and personally I wouldn’t really be confident saying he’s a Blade going from the pics we can use as evidence from frontal pics. I mentioned Bennett as on some pics he does seem to have a prominent cheek bone but I’m just guessing that they are Thickett and Bennett in the pic and can only offer this pic as a small likeness to them both, due to Thicketts hairline and being tashless, and Bennett’s slight glimmer of a prominent cheek bone. But I’m stumped tbh.

Head of the United Johnson dynasty. It could be him..

It would have been Jordanthorpe School at comprehensive level.
