Asline Rd playing field was a godsend to us for playing footie, as it was just round the corner. Before that, the nearest park (with flat fields, at least) was Millhouses.

i agree. We lost the same number of games as Liverpool (16) who finished 8th.

It was certainly brutal on our finances and we had to sell star players and promptly got relegated all the way to the 4th division
When Brearley arrived to rescue us from oblivion , we were so broke that some internal parts of the stand had still not been opened , 5 years after it was built !
The pigs North Stand (larger) built in the 60s had cost £100k
Our SS , built in the 70s cost £700k

It was the Leppings Lane stand that was built for the World Cup.

“People like me in mind.” Please elaborate. Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit(apparently) but what do you expect from the response you have sent(it’s not United!). I am reaching out to the wider Blades community to answer a question I have. And, if you have nothing to say, don’t say it. I have worked the doors of Sheffield for over 20 years and I have dealt with many a drunkard, but never an arsehole until I joined this forum. As a Blade of 40 years I am embarrassed and ashamed.

We replaced Deane with Flo that's why we went down!

It was an impossible task to replace Deane in fairness.

The midfield was the main issue that season as Gannon, Rogers and Kamara were getting on. We sold Willie Falconer around November which I think was a mistake but that money was probably spent on Blake who was a great signing.

Some goalkeeper was Gordon, surely would have played for either Sheffield club, except that they had goalkeepers of equal ability in their prime.

George was robbed there, that's what you get for being a genius.
Goalkeepers are overly protected.
Laying on the floor, arms around the ball, and legs apart as though poleaxed, need a kick in the bollocks, then when up strolling around the box for a while. Robbing the public of there entrance fee. we pay to see a game of football not some prick pretending he knows what he's doing.
