The little Three Tuns became a bit of a regular spot for me - along with half the staff of Midland Bank.
It was a Tetley’s place but in the late 90’s also used to have Timmy Taylor’s Landlord on & I remember that being a nice drink.
I’ve fallen out of that place several times and that made the afternoon at the bank a bit tricky….
I had my first legal pint in there.

Clifton suspension bridge under construction. Originally built for horse traffic, with a bit of modernisation it's still going strong. Thing I love about these old workmen pictures? There's always a bloke with a big hat. Weird.

I love a 'then and now' pic, and that's a right good one.

Clifton suspension bridge was completed 5 years after IKB death , so its probably the site Forman or one of the two guys that finished the design of the bridge.

Twenty years in the West Country you get to know a lot about Brunel.

Always UTB

True, but the bridge was started as long ago as 1831 and work stuttered until 1853 when work stopped altogether due to lack of money to complete it. Work restarted two years after Brunei’s death and was finally open in 1864.
The character in the photo looks suspiciously like this more famous picture of IKB.

My dad told me that he heard an ex-boxer saying in the commentary "I hit my wife ten times harder than that but it didnt knock her out". He did tell me the name of the ex-boxer but I have forgotten.

Walcott aka Arnold Raymond Cream..... only reason that's stuck with me is a lad at work won a Daily Mirror competition, pre internet days, in the mid 80s and went to White Hart Lane to watch Bugner v Bruno on the back of it.
It was a revelation to him that the M25 went both clock and and anti clockwise when he was working out his route there .... he was better at boxing facts than geography.

I think you might be referring to the post fight commentary observation by former world champion Terry Downes who , in his broad Cockney accent and which I remember well and he became famous for at the time declared that …..

“ My old lady hits me harder than that “ :)

Some debate as to if this is Sutherland Rd baths where I learnt to swim in the early 70's .
I have only vague memories but appreciate any help in confirming it. 8c0b675b582c62e5fd70feaa83067144.webp

Scotty was still there , like Mr mckay from Porridge .
I just don't remember much about the surroundings but the pic feels familiar.

I remember going from Firshill School around 1968/69 when I couldn't swim. Scotty had us non swimmers knelt by the baths then he walked down the line and kicked us into the water. Fucking terrifying, bullying twat!

Absolutely, how the bloke got a job and kept it is bewildering. Different times
