A sad ending, froze to death in BHS doorway one winter.
Remembered by those of us over a certain age
1976-77 winter was quite cold. Myself and my schoolmates skated on a frozen pond at Snelsmore Common near Newbury and most of us fell through!

Yes, the night matches in December v Chelsea & Bolton were played in freezing temperatures.
Roger Kirkpatrick was having thoughts about postponing the Bolton match at half time when inspecting an icy patch at the Kop End but decided that the match should carry on and we lost 3-2. It was the only time I saw Peter Dornan when he came on as sub

Remember that game well. Two recollections… Bolton had a cracking midfield/team and it was bloody freezing!!

Wow, Peter Dornan.

Didn’t we sign 2 Irish players at the same time, the other being Steve McKee ??

Both quickly sunk without a trace.

Yes, McKee stayed longer played in not too many first team games in 1977 but played in the reserves throughout the 1977-78 season. He appeared in the summer 1978 squad photo.

Photo six, Alf Ringstead backed up by Jack Cross, V Charlton Athletic, either,'53-'54 or '54-'55. Both played in these games, lost both, also, both, played in the '55-'56 game, also lost, but United had gone to V necked shirts that season, and relegated.
So HH any info to which season, please.
It is against Charlton, 1954. But we played them in April & December 54 so could have been either season I’m not totally sure.

Carrying on the 'cowboy' theme, I think I've put this one on before but again, when I drive down to Walla Walla I always make a point of walking past where the barbers shop was where the shooting took place. We go to the cemetery to take flowers and have a chat with my mother in law, bless her and RIP, and I usually go for a walk round to glean some history from the stories the gravestones tell.

I seem to remember Dornan playing in a Boxing Day match at Oldham, which we surprisingly won. I have a recollection of him not finishing the game and not seeing him again.

Seem to remember his signing being announced as bit of a find, a skilful midfielder..but sadly can’t bring any appearances to mind
