1976-77 winter was quite cold. Myself and my schoolmates skated on a frozen pond at Snelsmore Common near Newbury and most of us fell through!A sad ending, froze to death in BHS doorway one winter.
Remembered by those of us over a certain age

Photo six, Alf Ringstead backed up by Jack Cross, V Charlton Athletic, either,'53-'54 or '54-'55. Both played in these games, lost both, also, both, played in the '55-'56 game, also lost, but United had gone to V necked shirts that season, and relegated.
It is against Charlton, 1954. But we played them in April & December 54 so could have been either season I’m not totally sure.Photo six, Alf Ringstead backed up by Jack Cross, V Charlton Athletic, either,'53-'54 or '54-'55.
