J.B. Spire headmaster, Mr's Iosson, Bradley -later of Radio Sheffield fame (music), Pashley, who taught Bradley to play the violin and always played piano when any shows were produced for parents etc.

The laddered league tables were the best thing ever, moving the teams round after fetching the Green un was one of the highlights of the week

Thanks Bert - great photo that which brings back a lot of memories .

As you will well know , whilst he always had a ton of stuff on display as the photo shows , it represented no more than a tiny fraction of his total stock which included every item of hardware and ironmongery known to man at that time .

In addition to these however , he also stocked a vast range of other items as diverse as cricket bats and balls , clockwork cars and train sets , gentlemen’s silver handled walking canes and many , many more .

A quite remarkable establishment.

Either would have fallen foul of the Trades Description Act .

His attempts at providing this service were so bad that they were instantly recognisable . The unfortunate recipients had to face the humiliation in the schoolyard the following day of other boys coming up to them , sadly shaking their head accompanied by the remark - “ Tha’s ‘ad thi ‘air cut at Chinny’s “ and offering their sympathy.

Mention of haircuts brings to mind a particularly short one that brought much amusement at school. To make matters worse my parents had taken me to a barbers owned at the time by John Fantham the Wednesday player…..

had my haircut at johnny fanthams for quite a few years steve the ukranian far chair john(blade) middle chair and cant remember name of guy who had window chair(owl) had some great banter in there with those guys over the years all good lads

Doc Pace, Tony Wagstaff, Billy Hodgson. Waggy was a brilliant footballer but didn't have the physique. The club tried so many times to beef him up.

We had a copy for years when I still lived at home, but somewhere along the way it disappeared. I suspect my mother, who had zero interest in football, will have thrown it away not understanding the significance of the cover. Bless her.
