Bert up in that stand to the right, which was supposed to be for Leicester fans, but it wasn't![]()
His name was Rabbi, apparently it WAS meant to be Robert but there was a cockup on the birth certificate front and he ended up sounding more Scottish/Jewish than gypsy!Middle row third from right I think, is a chap named Robbie Howell. First Romany Gypsy to play for England and Sheff Utd.
An Ecclesfeldian, like many of United's early players and Bert. His name was Rabbi, apparently it WAS meant to be Robert but there was a cockup on the birth certificate front and he ended up sounding more Scottish/Jewish than gypsy!
Bottom picture is of first ever parachute payment
Top Scoreless draw at Anfield in March 1975, we wore all blue

It’s depressing when a joke gets no laughs. Out of respect to you, I am not adding the laughing emoji…It's rude to laugh at your own jokes

My hero too, happy memories of the Jones and Birchenall partnership days. Photo of him in a suit could well have been at the time of the transfer, I was autograph hunting back then and have memories of him wearing a sheepskin jacket, popular at the time… strange the stuff you remember!could well have been he was my hero i was devastated when we sold him to leeds still the best number 9 ive seen in a red and white shirt

1924-25 season. Don't think it was the cup final team as I cannot see Harry Johnson or Harold Pantling
The players nicknamed him "The Squire of Shireoaks"
Great photo, Bert! One I haven’t seen before. Where did you find that gem?!
Top and 3rd photo, Chelsea v Blades in FA Cup 5th round, March 1967. We lost 2-0
I have them down as both in 1930, away at Chelsea and the bottom one away at Arsenal, don’t have a players name with it but think you are right as it looks like Sampy.5th photo no idea
Bottom photo, Tommy Sampy the Blades player? Either in the 1920s or early 1930s, probably the latter
Gutted when he left
Wow, just googled with inflation what £1 is now the equivalent to... £10-15. ticket prices really have gone up.
