The Legendary Bobby Charlton's final game at man u..they wanted our legendary Tony Currie as his replacement, not sure if that is true or not.

Blades 2 (Woodward 2) Luton 1 (Jimmy Ryan)

Some years later my dad recalled that Luton's Malcolm MacDonald was blabbing out in the papers early in the week saying that he found it easy to score against the 2nd division centre halves. Throughout the match Eddie Colquhoun had MacDonald in his pocket. After the final whistle Eddie sarcastically slow hand clapped MacDonald off the pitch and many in the crowd loved it!

0-0 draw Easter Monday 1974. The reverse fixture was 27 hours later and we lost 2-0
that was the game 10k leeds fans were on the kop 2 hours before kick off we ended up in the top right hand corner where wednesday always ended up at the lane mind leeds had tried twice in 70 and 71 to get on the kop from the lane end but got their arses kicked both times on and off the pitch

Woody scored a superb Goal I think Woody took a corner one of the Luton defense tried to head the ball away he looked like he missed timed the header only to glance it beyond the far post where Currie got the ball and drove past a Luton defender to chip the ball back into the penalty area among a crowd of players and Woodward somehow blasted the ball into the far corner of the net Areght goal the kop went barmy if I remember correctly Woodward got both goals for us that were a reght goal as well.

Never seen that photo before with people standing on the roof looks like a very old house.was that at Bramall Lane or in Leeds ?.was living in Sydney Australia then.

Scored both goals at the Lane End. His 2nd was what you had described

Posted this before 6 of us at the last minute decided to go the first game at Weeds. Two15 year olds three 16 year olds and the driver aged 17, all skin heads. We got in on the end behind the goal and realised all the Blades were down the side terracing. Surrounded by one of their mobs we kept quiet all game but got clocked walking back to the car by a group of around 20 not much older than us led by a mouthy short arse and his huge sidekick.

We tried to blag our way out of it by telling them we were rugby league fans but they weren't having it. My cousin who was a handy lad decided attack was the best form of defence so landed one on the big lump. He looked shocked that someone had tried to hit him. We fought a rearguard action back to the car. As always with a mob only a small number are up for a fight and mouthy boy kept out of it. As we were only 6 in number we had no choice but the defend ourselves. I got my second away black eye, Bolton away was the first and my mother was not impressed.

We went to the return fixture next day at the Lane early determined to hunt down mouthy boy and walked straight into a sea of Weeds fans on the Kop who'd been there since 5 o'clock. Blades realised what was going on and went up the back steps into the corner at the top. As the older Blades came into the ground the numbers of Blades swelled we began to push Weeds across the Kop but there were just too many of them to move them off. We never did find mouthy boy I suspect he'd stayed at home.

Was at that one it was lively. No my first visit to Bolton was 2 years earlier in November 69 as a14 year old. Went on coaches with mates and arrived at ground to find a large number of young Blades stood waiting to go on their end. A lot had just had the skin head. I didn't get mine until a year later. Plod were laughing at us saying you don't want to go on there thats where the big boys go. A Bolton skin head walked past and said there all greasers around here they've heard your skin heads and are turning out. Bravedo took over and we said the Bolton fan was just winding us up.

Around a hundred plus Blades are on their Kop and we noticed other Blades are now being told to go on the other end by the police. Mate suddenly falls to the ground as a brick has just comer through a gap between their Kop wall and roof hitting him on the back of the neck. Next minute the chant Greebore goes up and leather clad greasers suddenly appear in number in the corner. They took off their studded belts and jackets and piled into us. I got trapped against a barrier giving one of them a free hit for my first black eye. We got pushed to the sides and took a hammering. We got back at them after the game when they walked up to the coaches.

Next year we took more numbers expecting to meet up with the greasers again but they'd all had their hair cut :D

I remember the 71 game for us going into a bar before the game and a Blade going up to the DJ and asking him to put some reggae on. He replied over the mike saying this record is for the Sheffield United fans in the corner. Cue lots of beer glasses heading our way.
