Stoke 3 Blades 2 in October 1974. In my dad's match report in his letter to my school he said it was a dirty match, Len Badger was sent off. In the photo, Geoff Hurst took the penalty but Jim Brown parried the effort and then Hurst followed up to score
Remember it wellthat was the game 10k leeds fans were on the kop 2 hours before kick off we ended up in the top right hand corner where wednesday always ended up at the lane mind leeds had tried twice in 70 and 71 to get on the kop from the lane end but got their arses kicked both times on and off the pitch
I got my bovril spilt over my high waister turn up flairs by an agitated , clumsy Norwich fan once . I let him bloody know about it as well I can tell you .Was at that one it was lively. No my first visit to Bolton was 2 years earlier in November 69 as a14 year old. Went on coaches with mates and arrived at ground to find a large number of young Blades stood waiting to go on their end. A lot had just had the skin head. I didn't get mine until a year later. Plod were laughing at us saying you don't want to go on there thats where the big boys go. A Bolton skin head walked past and said there all greasers around here they've heard your skin heads and are turning out. Bravedo took over and we said the Bolton fan was just winding us up.
Around a hundred plus Blades are on their Kop and we noticed other Blades are now being told to go on the other end by the police. Mate suddenly falls to the ground as a brick has just comer through a gap between their Kop wall and roof hitting him on the back of the neck. Next minute the chant Greebore goes up and leather clad greasers suddenly appear in number in the corner. They took off their studded belts and jackets and piled into us. I got trapped against a barrier giving one of them a free hit for my first black eye. We got pushed to the sides and took a hammering. We got back at them after the game when they walked up to the coaches.
Next year we took more numbers expecting to meet up with the greasers again but they'd all had their hair cut
I remember the 71 game for us going into a bar before the game and a Blade going up to the DJ and asking him to put some reggae on. He replied over the mike saying this record is for the Sheffield United fans in the corner. Cue lots of beer glasses heading our way.
Surely was that day as I was hit by a interesting dart in the shoulder.and i must have been near both of you were probably all on that pic thats the big side terrace isnt it always an interesting afternoon on there
Was that the game when a whole group of us blades started cheering when a mob wearing red and white scarves turned up just before ko - and then we realised that the white scarf with a couple of red bands at each end were (somehow!) Bolton colours???Bert remembers it well, a tough day out that was as were many other away games in that era.
Bert can't remember that bit, he was too busy dodging missiles and punches. Was that the game when a whole group of us blades started cheering when a mob wearing red and white scarves turned up just before ko - and then we realised that the white scarf with a couple of red bands at each end were (somehow!) Bolton colours???

Stood next to him at Mass at St Mary's High Green on the odd occasion.
Leeds players and staff went crazy when we equalised as a firework presentation was set off at the side of the pitch and smoke billowed into the goalmouth1-1 draw April 1975. Cammack late equaliser
Always seemed an unlikely place for a Blades player to live, a bit like Fleck residing at Catcliffe. A safe assumption in both cases is probably proximity to the M1 for getting back 'up the road' from time to time.He lived at Charlton Brook and drank in the Bridge Inn.
Saw his debut at Stoke
Was he the first "name" signing we made who turned out not to live up to expectations?
