This photo is up in my late Grandad's house. This is his era of Blades, as a young lad. He had the image remastered, although I'm assuming the colouring of the socks is incorrect? UTB.
Ye should be red and white hooped socks, just a tad earlier than my fist memorable team.
Defence same but Ringstead, Hawksworth and Browning replacing Hutchinson, who I did see play, Smith and Jones, who I may have, but no recollection.
Thanks for posting, Bramall Lane end as shown, seared in my brain.
Fantastic photo, your grandad was a very discerning man.

I've worked out your photo was probably taken for first game of season 1950-51. August 19th V Blackburn Rovers, lost 0-3 HT 0-1.
Unfortunately, Jack Smith as named is actually F.E. Smith
Frederick Edward Smith. Jack was the goalkeeper prior to Ted Burgin, who played in the 1936 FACF for Blades 1-0 loss.
Apologies, no disrespect to your Grandad.

None taken in the slightest! No need to apologise. Thank you for the details and your insight, and he would be grateful too. He also didn't lead on the refurb of the photo or the naming of the line up, so he would only want it to be accurate. UTB.

Jack, John Clayton, Smith, aka Smiler, had his last season 1949-50 playing 2 away games, 17&24 Sept V SWFC lost 2-1, Hutchinson & Grimsby lost 4-0 a rather ignominious end to a good servant to the club.

Tunny Dunn it!
Some good players on here, might not be SUPER Stars but solid pros.
Tommy Sampy, ought to have had a cup winner's medal, but Boyle played cause his dad had a winners medal.
Jack Smith, Harry hooper.
Transitionary, squad, didn't pull up many trees in't league, quite abject.
Manager, Teddy Davidson, "steady Eddie" but he did sign the immaculate James Hagan.
He said, one talked match tactics with Hagan then Jimmy went out and played his game.
