Leicester a few days before I think and I think that was also 0-0. My 3rd was Old Trafford ,so I think my first away goal at the 4th time of asking was at Man city. First away win was at St James on Boxing day I reckon.

Also there was the unbearable tension of the home game against Millwall, when Hockey finally clinched the win with a goal scooped by hand over the line. Not sure if his was the first or second, but the release of tension was palpable.

First goal and it was in the last 10 mins, he knocked the ball off keeper's (Bryan King) hands. Crowd laughed at the horseplay but the ref allowed the goal to stand amid furious protests by Millwall players. Crowd cheered half-heartedly after they had realised the ref's decision. Very strange.

2nd goal was an own goal.

Blimey, Sunley. I once met him as he was lodging at my Auntie’s house in H*********h (she too in Piggie players). Remember a tall, skinny, long haired youth, must have been early 70s.

Bert's Christian name is Bert, everyone in Bert's family is called Bert.

Now there's a term for you that's been banished......Christian name.

In Bert's day that's what it was called.
I’d not heard that the term Christian name had been banished. I’ve got a Christian name and anyone who tells me that it’s wrong will get told in no uncertain terms where to stick their politically correctness.

I remember when I was young and presented with a form with Christian name and surname ,when I had brain freeze I would think of a lad at school called Christian bell and all my problems were solved. Ding dong.

I can remember Blades v wendy October 1971.we were two up and they equalised 2-2.a group of wendy fans somehow we're on the kop near us.boy did they get some stick from Blades fans.they was a bit of a scuffle. but stopped when some coppers were nearby. Tuder came on and scored the ball hit his knee and went through their goalkeeper's legs. and into the net. the kop erupted and the roar was louder than when we scored the other two.i think they were about five min to go.after a couple of minutes. i looked around those wendy fans must have pissed off.another massive cheer when the final whistle went.that is the best derby match i have seen.in my humble opinion.. I bet Bert can remember it well.

PS . Special like for the use of the word 'bleeder' - proper old Sheffield word and a favourite of my old man . :)

Is 'bleeder' a Sheffield word? Old man Steptoe uses it quite a bit in the eponymous TV series so suspect it may be a generational thing rather than geographical. Happy to be corrected....

I remember being in the Northern General back in the early 60s. I was about 14 and we hadn't seen many black or Asian folk in those days. One little little lad was brought in with appendicitis and he was Asian. I remember the nurse asking for his details to fill in his admission card and she asked him his name. "Ashfaq Ali" he said.

She then asked him what his Christian name was. Of course the little lad hadn't a clue what to answer so he said "Ali Ashfaq". He was Muslim so of course he hadn't a clue as to the meaning of the question.

It isn't necessarily political correctness that suggests we don't assume everybody is Christian, just respect.

It's easy enough to ask for family name or given name.

Means the same to everybody.

He certainly does, especially the Wednesday fans fighting on the Kop when they equalised. Bert was stood near them.

When Tudor scored Bert ended up about 30 feet nearer the pitch.

I never thought of it as being exclusive to Sheffield but rather that it was only used regularly in a small number of areas of the country , the East End being another of them .

Another example of that is 'lairy' , which people from many parts of the country would never had heard of until quite recently when it has surprisingly become quite fashionable , to the extent that I have heard it used by middle class broadcasters on television .

Fashionistas of the 70's will remember this place...

But do you remember where it was, and what it is now? ("Boarded Up" is not the answer I'm looking for!). ;)
I don't see an answer to your question. Therefore the answer is the position was junction of Charles St-Cambridge St and Cross Burgess St. As to what it is now aint got a clue. Quite a while since I was down there 9-10 months ago, remember it was a surprise when I saw it but am buggered if I can remember what it was. I plead senility 'Mi Lud'.

I can still remember the rumble of the crowd and the pain in my ribs as the crowd surged down and trapped you against the off set barriers. How on earth nobody got seriously injured in those days . (Sorry disregardingHillsborough. )Best thing to happen getting rid of the crush barriers. You had about 5 seconds to brace yourself when the rumble started, you soon learnt not to stand in front of one.

I don’t remember the Millwall game at all but I’ll swap that one for Bristol City at home. We were 3-0 down with about fifteen minutes left, brought on John Tudor and drew 3-3, an incredible comeback.
What I remeber from the Millwall game was one of their players at the end having a right go at one of the ball boys who was wasting time at the end and the goalie apologising afterwards.
