Old Photos For No Reason Whatsoever

I was born a bit after that, but even as a kid, growing up in the 1960's, there were very few cars about compared to now. I remember a game we used to play as kids where we would create a sort of bingo card of colours and try and be the first to spot different colour cars. Most of them were black! But we'd sit out on the front step and sometimes you could wait a couple of minutes before the next car came along. Reminds me also of these books:

The "I-Spy" books. They did them for all kinds of things, birds, trees, insects, etc. But my favourite was the cars one. You used to take it out with you and when you spotted a car in the book you had to fill in your log.

"Where did you see your Volkswagen Beetle?" "What colour was it?" "What date and time did you see it?" etc.

When you'd completed the whole book you could send it off to "Big Chief I-Spy" and he would send you a feather and "order of merit". Good, cheap, clean, educational, healthy entertainment for young kids.

And what are young kids doing with their spare time these-days? Wasting it playing games or watching porn on the computer! That's what!

And what am I doing with my spare time these days? Errr...

I'm not playing games on the computer. 🤔

I do enjoy your little trips down memory lane!

I don't know what your taste in fiction is, but there is an excellent book by Kate Atkinson; 'A god in ruins'

That one had been on my pending pile for about 3 years and I just finished reading it tonight. Excellent as you say, and a thought provoking ending to say the least.

I was there and will always remember it as I got hit with a dart in the shoulder thrown from the scabs - side terrace was split into two with about 3 coppers separating the fans.
Bert was also on that terrace, very near the thin blue line.
A fine day out when we were the best team in the land for a few weeks.

I took this photograph in early 1969. You wouldn't believe the number of people on Facebook who doubted its authenticity. The signs are too modern, the street lights are too modern or the M18 didn't exist. Though, in the end the penny dropped.View attachment 73197
"Transport" font created in 1963... (Thanks to the current Secrets of the Museum series on the BBC, as I'm not that old :p)

I recognise that view, but for the life of me can't name the place.

Give us a clue Mick :) I know I will be kicking myself.

I thought I would get this straight away. Looks easy, and I know the road, but can't see it!!

Mad Mick since you've put it on facebook, do you mind if I screenshot it for the taxi forum? Drivers love these.

I don't know now if this is easy or hard. I thought the junction at the bottom was the Upwell Street junction, where there was a pub on the corner of Hawke St, but it doesn't fit. Must be much earlier on to have A57 turn right.

It looks like Brightside to me with Forge Masters in the distance. Upwell Street to the left and the Post Office hub thing behind and to the left.

No probs TaxiBlade as long as it's not for commercial purposes and would be great if you credit me. The consensus was that the road to the right is Savile Street. I'd forgotten as it's 50 years ago.

I still can't see it, even using google maps!! haha!

(edit, I've put in your copyright,. and it's only facebook sheffield taxi drivers forum, and just for fun. Old pictures is a common one! This is a really good one, I think. I'll let you know.)

How bizarre.

Well that took some doing! But someone has got it.

I wouldn't have got that one Mad Mick - great shot!

Google image shows the place, and smaller picture shows that the path and grass lin follows the old path when you could turn right here.

Coming up to Sytners Land Rover on the left..
Yep. I would never have got that. I'm glad allowed me to put on taxi forum. Was quite a good discussion. Obviously everyone said Attercliffe, but pinpointing was tricky. Thanks Mad Mick (from the taxi forum) - all serious threads in there, so 'Where is this?' threads always go well :)
