It is or was the Boleyn Ground in the Upton Park area of East London. Over time the area name came to be favoured over the actual ground name. It was called Boleyn because a nearby house was reputed to belong to Anne Boleyn.
Thanks for info on Boleyn, I would never have associated it with Anne Boleyn despite being interested in British history.

Funny that, at school her name was pronounced bolynn.

When WHU left Upton Park it became discribed as bowling ground?

Never put the two together.
