Didn't go to this game, was out of Sheffield at this time, but it makes good reading. Peter Swan never seemed to get the better 'Doc' over the times they opposed. Admit I didn't know much about Swan but never thought he was more than a decent Div. 1 centre half. Remember seeing him, on a newsreel (Pathe), playing for England. Spent most of the time on his arse and you know can't play football on your ar...……
Top R hand corner league table showing, Blades just behind Owls, wonder if the win placed Blades above Owls?
YesIf its the game I think it is, Doc Pace got his second goal by a neat n tidy chip over Springett and I think, very soon after his first.)
No. the photo was Sept 1973. We won 2-1. They went down in 1975 with Luton and Carlisle
Doesn’t look like Hollins, very familiar face but I can’t put a name to it.Kember, Webb, Harris, Currie, Eddy and Hollins?
Number 2 is Hollins. See below linkDoesn’t look like Hollins, very familiar face but I can’t put a name to it.
In your reference regards United, goal scorers it says Salmonds 33, United won 1-2. Is it Geoff maybe the prototype for "unseen work" so much lorded about 3 or 4 years ago?
No it says Salmons got booked after 33 mins. Probably for protesting against the penalty awardIn your reference regards United, goal scorers it says Salmonds 33, United won 1-2. Is it Geoff maybe the prototype for "unseen work" so much lorded about 3 or 4 years ago?

To be fair, that’s quite an achievement by Geoff Salmons.
To be the only person booked in a game also featuring Chopper Harris takes some doing, especially if you weren’t suffering from terminal gravel rash.....
I thought he was going to be sent off in the first half of our 2-1 defeat to Leeds in November 1972. He already had been booked a few minutes earlier and he fouled a L**ds player leading to a mini scuffle and the ref gave him a long lecture but lipreading the ref from behind the goal I am quite sure he did say "off". He probably said something like "one more and then you are off"To be fair, that’s quite an achievement by Geoff Salmons.

One of the best defences seen at the LaneBert has been on his garage again. View attachment 54061
The first ever, quite rightly scored by a master craftsman, lad on the left could play a bit as well
This is so true , there will never be another Woody !! Best player I have ever seen !What a legend that man was, people talk these days about Booker, Coutts etc being legends, they aren't even on the same planet as Alan Woodward.
Talking about posh, my cousin from Totley used to call it the Green One.It certainly is mate, but if you could afford old newspaper underlay you were posh. We used dried grass and leaf mould.
Here's one taken a little later, starting to clean up.Probably been posted before, but a reminder of far worse times. View attachment 54218

This one taken when all damage cleared awayView attachment 54237 Sorry can't enlarge don't have the knowledge. All Blades History. White lines on last photo are to do with editing so probably we're lucky to get this record of how it was at that time. I can't find a date for the photo.
No, I didn't .where did that info come from please, wasn't Speer IC armaments or some such thing? Makes me think how any one knew which plane dropped the bombs/incendiaries on The Lane. Germans had a fairly good targeting system at that time, based on triangulation and radio beams. As The Lane is a little away from epicentre of bombing could be some one off loading before returning back to base.Did you know that Albert Speer who had visited Sheffield University in 1935,and also attended a couple of games at Bramall Lane during his stay, had the pilot who dropped the bombs, court martialled.
Yes he could. When he could be arsed. The first ever, quite rightly scored by a master craftsman, lad on the left could play a bit as well
