Didn't go to this game, was out of Sheffield at this time, but it makes good reading. Peter Swan never seemed to get the better 'Doc' over the times they opposed. Admit I didn't know much about Swan but never thought he was more than a decent Div. 1 centre half. Remember seeing him, on a newsreel (Pathe), playing for England. Spent most of the time on his arse and you know can't play football on your ar...……
Top R hand corner league table showing, Blades just behind Owls, wonder if the win placed Blades above Owls?

If its the game I think it is, Doc Pace got his second goal by a neat n tidy chip over Springett and I think, very soon after his first.)

No. the photo was Sept 1973. We won 2-1. They went down in 1975 with Luton and Carlisle

Won on the Saturday September 1st at Stamford Bridge and then a few days later thrashed Arsenal at the Lane 5-0 (TC sitting on the ball).

Same again this coming season Blades and it'll really make the Premier league sit up and notice.

In your reference regards United, goal scorers it says Salmonds 33, United won 1-2. Is it Geoff maybe the prototype for "unseen work" so much lorded about 3 or 4 years ago?
No it says Salmons got booked after 33 mins. Probably for protesting against the penalty award

To be fair, that’s quite an achievement by Geoff Salmons.

To be the only person booked in a game also featuring Chopper Harris takes some doing.
I thought he was going to be sent off in the first half of our 2-1 defeat to Leeds in November 1972. He already had been booked a few minutes earlier and he fouled a L**ds player leading to a mini scuffle and the ref gave him a long lecture but lipreading the ref from behind the goal I am quite sure he did say "off". He probably said something like "one more and then you are off"

Not an old photo but a very recent one of last Wednesday's York racecard which shows Ted is still working for a living and in his favourite sport, too.

He'll be pleased that his job title has been changed as well. For some reason, he had the mickey taken out of him when he was called a "ring inspector".

Did you know that Albert Speer who had visited Sheffield University in 1935,and also attended a couple of games at Bramall Lane during his stay, had the pilot who dropped the bombs, court martialled.

The good old Cavendish Club as was before it’s numerous incarnations. Them were’t days when the doorman checked that your hair wasn’t too long and your tie was straight before he’d let you in. A great place to be though in the late 60’s. It seemed proper posh to a wide eyed teen like me, I actually got a membership card even though I was under age, (don’t ask). Not long out if school and I could see top international turns in the Latino Lounge then move on into the disco to pull birds to the sound of Sam and Dave and other Motown artists. And if you didn't pull, you’d always got the casino to finish off in. It really seemed like another world at the time, there was certainly nothing really like the Cavendish in Sheffield back then.

No, I didn't .where did that info come from please, wasn't Speer IC armaments or some such thing? Makes me think how any one knew which plane dropped the bombs/incendiaries on The Lane. Germans had a fairly good targeting system at that time, based on triangulation and radio beams. As The Lane is a little away from epicentre of bombing could be some one off loading before returning back to base.
