Me and @mrsstringsenior had a conversation the other day whilst sat in the Rising Son, Fulwood Road (picture posted earlier) almost exactly the same as this. She said I would have loved it. I think I would have.

Sounds fantastic doesn't it?

The Cross Daggers in Woodhouse, when it was a Tetley pub which must be early 1960s. The shop to the right was demolished some time in the 60s for road alterations. The Daggers then became a restaurant for years and is now an Indian, 'The Woodhouse Spice'. One of the oldest buildings in the city, date above the door being 1658.

My Uncle Frank was in mounted police in those days. The white horse was called Yang. The stables were at Red Lane off Broccoli Bank and the mounties used to have take it in turns to look after the horses. When mi Uncle Frank had to work Sundays, I used to go up to the stables and ride Yang round the paddock.

All are still open except Junction which was converted to a Premier supermarket a couple of years ago.
As did the Brunswick a few years before that. The other week when I went to Woodhouse The George had a load of builders in looked like it was being refurbished, not sure how they managed to prise some of the regulars away from the bar.

I used to live not far from the Brunswick, went to that school. Didn't know the pub was a supermarket.

I knew your Uncle Frank well, Robby - we lived close to the stables as kids, and were always made welcome if we popped in. In later years, we always had a word on match days.
You were very lucky, your uncle was a gentleman.
