Those were the days. None of this Freeman nonsense - when the full-back crossed the half-way line, there was unease in the crowd, fearing there would be no cover. I remember one of his goals - a long-range shot towards the Kop in a 3-3 draw, with Swansea, which a defender deflected in. Cec came over the half-way line, and we let 3 in at home! Can anyone remember his other goal for me? He was an outstanding professional, if not the most naturally gifted.

Cec Coldwell one club player red and white through and through.
One of the worst matches ever when he was caretaker manager at Sunderland team got hammered and so did we inside and outside the ground

With respect to post #3256, it's Greavsie and Bernard Shaw, Blades full-back of that era and one-time (possibly literally) England U-23 player

I did think it was him but he looked too tall in the photo.

its ok cant miss what you never knew

On a brighter note, I once asked my Gran what it was like in the blitz - she told me that the loudest explosion she heard was when an anti-aircraft battery near the Botanical Gardens accidentally shot down a nearby barrage balloon.
