No it's Hartley Brook Road
Thanks Tynemouth.
My grand parents lived at the bottom of Sicey Avenue and there were a large parade of shops approaching Bellhouse Road.
You perhaps know the area but I am going back to the late 40's early 50's.
Hartley brook road if my memory serves me was a steep hill where the buses went up with a school on the rhs at the bottom.
Probably got it wrong as it is 67 years ago.
Am I that old!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the information and it is the second option, I had forgotten it was Nethershire Lane but it was a long time ago.
Sicey Avenue running off it to the left.
My grand parents lived about 12 houses up on the lhs.
Noticed a bus on the avenue on the google map, no buses up there when I used to visit.
It is solid red so wonder which bus company that was.

A brilliant thread this we must keep it going.

Do you have a link to a map that shows a wider area of Sheffield?
Yes, I do, I just couldn't cover all of the map with my iPad - is there a particular district you would like to see?
It's taken from a book entitled "Sheffield at War" published by the Star and Telegraph in 1948

Yes please. I live in the South West and I know that lights were erected up in the hills to try to fool the Germans (a scheme that worked, to a point)
Does your map show where the bombs fell out as far as Owler Bar and over to Stannage Edge area or is it just the housing areas that you alluded to above?

Note the bias. Our ground bombed, nothing shown at the other place. They were biased against us even in 1948. ;)

Are these from the new exhibition about Sheffield in the war GBS ? I really need to pay a visit.

You should get the book 'Hitlers Date with Sheffield', it shows in detail all the areas on Sheffield where bombs hit and destroyed buildings, i always wondered why there were about x4 terrace houses missing on Valley Rd, turns out they were hit and destroyed.

No, they're from a 1948 Star (yes, I know) publication. I hadn't heard of the exhibition, do you have any details?

P.S. If you would like to borrow the book, PM me your address, I'm going to post more images dealing with individual companies and their production during the war - should be later today.
