It was a first-time half volley of a free kick from the right wing. As can be seen from the photo, he hit it on the up and he really got hold of it. It "stuck" in the back of the net in mid-air. Goal nets were quite loose in those days and the net wrapped itself round the ball and stanchion to hold it there.

I'm in that little group of kids at the front on the John Street terrace, between the keeper's right shoulder and the Boro number three.

I knew Nudger was playing, partly why I put it up. Also gives a good illustration of the illustrious history of BDTBL, international football and cricket have been played there. Should be a World Heritage site!
