Arsenal 5 Blades 3, January 15th 1949

Back row l to r; Ernest Jackson, Graham Bailey (still alive, now 102), Jack Smith, Harry Latham, Albert Cox, Joe Cockroft (signed for us aged 37 from Wendy. Missed a penalty in this match, missed a penalty again in the 0-0 home draw v Huddersfield the following week and never played for us again in a league match). Front row; Dennis Thompson, Jimmy Hagan, Cliff Whitelum, Roy Warhurst and George Jones.
 

This is great. Might have been shared before but sod looking through 700+ pages - '1899 FA Cup winners Sheffield United displaying their medals attached to watch chains. '

Yes. I’m sure this photo has appeared before, but it was taken at a time before the standard football team photo had developed (two or three rows. Back row standing and arms folded). This photo is much more real and characterful.
 
1905-06 Sept 30 H V Birmingham Lost 0-2 HT0-1. The Birmingham ( City doesn't seem to apply at this time) player is apparently Billy Beer who was a double cup winner with The Blades a few years earlier. He had left Bramall Lane for Small Heath which became Birmingham, then presumably Brum. City.
Also Yorkshire just stuffed Surrey at the Oval in the 'Bash' Semi Final. :)

I assume this was the cup match, where Mick Jones scored the equaliser at Craven Cottage. Great photo of a great player and man.
