Bert. which ground was the worst for fighting etc. Millwall was the worst for me. just to say I could run fast then.

the 2 sheffield derby games in our relegation season were a bit tasty both on the shoreham and east bank kops 67-68 😳

Bramall Lane! Leeds, Newcastle, Man U, Chelsea all caused lots of bother.

Away wise, Bolton took some beating, as did Stamford Bridge. Bury was rough as well.

The Chelsea home game....one of Bert's gang was arrested. The Sheffield Star's report said that "Ackroyd was seen to lead the charge" arf arf. Fined £80.

Bert still sees him around.

Just curious but when it was a cricket/football stadium when football matches occurred did people use to stand on the side with no stand or did they sit near the pavilion back a bit or did none of that happen if any older blade knows

There were many games where there was enough room for everyone to be accommodated on the 3 sides and the cricket terracing and pavilion seats were not required.

I remember the Boxing Day game against Man Utd (won 2-1) in 1966. There were nearly 43,000 in the ground that day and we had to stand on the terracing near the cricket pavilion with thousands of others.

The Lane was packed that day and we couldn't get through on to the kop.

A mate (no longer with us) told me that the worst fighting he ever saw was just after Mick Jones headed in a Woody corner in our 1-0 win against Man City in April 1967. He said the fighting was in many places in the Kop. Police and St John's ambulance workers were very busy

I am sure I recall an axe been thrown that day. Sailed straight over our shoulders. Spent second half on the Bramall Lane end.

A curious detail of the 3-sided ground was that except when there was a really big crowd (say 35000+), if Utd kicked towards the Kop in the first half, you could walk right round in front of the pavilion and stand behind the Bramall Lane goal to watch Utd attacking in the second half as well. The miserable old gits at the Lane End, who seemed to go there for the peace and quiet, did not welcome crowds of youngsters with rattles and chants invading their space. As a miserable old git myself, I now understand why...

£80? What year was that? "A close friend" only got £110 at Ipswich in 1998 for 'public order offences'

you probably couldnt get on the kop because of the 10k mancs that were on the shoreham was on the bramall lane end that day mick jones scored the best headed goal at the kop end ive ever seen at the lane stepney never saw it nearly broke back of the net woodys corner by the way

was on the kop that day and yes it was brutal city were above us at the top of the kop lobbing bricks and all sorts of objects think that game was one of the reasons blades fans moved to the top behind the goal for the september derby next season against wednesday

Around 72 or 73.
chelsea were on the kop in numbers in the 1972 game at the lane which we won 2 - 1 i think remember there was a big no mans land on the kop with police keeping the 2 factions apart
