A little harsh on a well meaning body of men
I give up.
I can't picture where either of these are.
Anybody want to help a sad old fart?

And equally strange customer'sRemember a really strange barmaid working here.
I believe the one with the constructing building is Pond St and the other is what is now Tudor Sq.I give up.

In the 80s, the drummer with local group Don Valley and the Rotherides was called Kelvin Flats. You wouldn't get much sun on the north side of that in the winter.
Anybody know what the local relevance of the name Kelvin was?
A bit of a coincidence this....I was just about to post this pic. Taken from Shrewsbury Road area in Feb 1989.I believe the one with the constructing building is Pond St and the other is what is now Tudor Sq.
Real puzzler the Pond St one. It's taken me since yesterday until this morning for the penny to drop. First thoughts were Tippet Lane, with West St and Labour Exchange at top of photo but the b/w with bulls eye windows made me re think. For the life of me, despite recognising the b/w, I couldn't locate it in my brain. What was that building used for? Presumably it was part of an emerging Technical College.A bit of a coincidence this....I was just about to post this pic. Taken from Shrewsbury Road area in Feb 1989.
Anongst other things, on the far right, it shows the building that XM657 refers to in answer to Ishouldcoco's query about SEB's post. You can see the curvy thingies on the roof in both shots.

Yes, I believe that site started out as the College of Technology, but became the "Poly" pretty soon after , when it merged with the Design College.Real puzzler the Pond St one. Top marks for the technical jargon.![]()
No. Not originally. All I can find is that there was a Kelvin Street and the Kelvin Grove pub in the immediate area. So I’m guessing the flats were named because of those but I don’t know why the street was called Kelvin. You wouldn't get much sun on the north side of that in the winter.

Pinstone Street running right to left. Goodwin Fountains top left and Town Hall top right.
Someone's nicked a headlamp off the lorry, and there's a bloke having a piss in the hedge to the right if that helpsThis one puzzles me a bit. All the information with it is 'Wybourn' but I can't place the road.

Looks a grim place wherever it is, looks like the bloke having a piss is left handed.More than enough info to pinpoint it

It's Maltravers Road. Unbelievably, those houses are still there, as is the church hall. It's behind the trees in this shotThis one puzzles me a bit. All the information with it is 'Wybourn' but I can't place the road.
