GOAL - v West Ham (a) 10.11.73. Woodward's second was a terrific volley from some twenty yards that might have gone anywhere. It was hardly seen until it flashed into the net. He met a Currie corner a foot above ground and crashed it home.

I was there for that one. Never seen a ball hit so hard before or since. Bobby Moore could have got in the way of that shot on the line but he thought the better of it and neshed out the way.

2-0 win v Norwich, Agana with both goals. Remember this day not just for the obvious reason of there being no roof, but more for burning my head quite badly in the blazing sun.
I went to party that night with a face like a beetroot. Didn't stop me snogging a ginger lass and drinking gallons of stones

And the pitch marked out with breasts in front of the goal !!

Where were the PC's in days of yore - kidding me.

For those of a certain age.

I passed The Children's Hospital on the way to the match yesterday and saw the Christmas decorations being put up outside. The name on the access crane interested me - they've done work at The Lane.

The name of the company?

0

So inventing bogus companies isn't Wendy's only forte - they've got to nick the name as well.

There are people trespassing on the railway line, where are the transport p c when they’re needed?

Terry Nicholl (who scored the goal) and Geoff Salmons (Phil Thompson in background) in our 1-0 win against Liverpool in April 1974

I rated Nicholl quite highly at the time and thought he was going to make it but that goal was probably the high point of his career with United and he was moved on. Steve Ludlam was another around in the same era who I liked when he first got his chance in the team but he ultimately wasn’t up to it and was sold.

Yes. Monday night match, April 8th 1974. We had lost 1-0 at home to Coventry on the Saturday in a dreadful game and were in relegation bother.

Atmosphere on the Kop towards the end of the Liverpool game was electric.

Including this game, we got 6 points from the last 6 games (2 points for a win) and avoided relegation by 4 points.

Southampton, Man Utd :-) and Norwich went down.

Leeds champions, and we held them to a 0-0 draw on Easter Monday, losing 2-0 at Elland Road the next day!!!

From left to right: Tommy Sampy (surprise exclusion from the final team), Ernest Milton (last player in the team to pass away, his wife insisted that on the day of the funeral the hearse would go round the SUFC ground before arriving at the cemetery), Jimmy Waugh (didnt play in the final), Billy Gillespie, David Mercer, George Green and Tommy Boyle.

Tommy Boyle's father, Peter Boyle, used to live on my street, Alderson Place (1901 census research by blade.i.am I think) - must have been very convenient for him being so close to Bramall Lane. Father and son were both FA Cup winners with us, which must be some sort of record, I suspect.

Always wondered where our players lived according to the 1901 and 1911 census, I was a member of Ancestry.com but didn't get around to looking for the addresses of our players. I read somewhere that Billy Cook (1915 and 1925 FA Cup final) lived in Hebburn when he was a SUFC player but moved to Sheffield after he had retired as a player!
