Wasn't The Bull and Mouth once 'TheTap and Spile' and, before that 'The Corner Pin'? And that pic. I posted of The Big Gun, there was a big Woodcocks Travel next to it and which was the pub just along from there?

Not sure, could have been. The Corner Pin is on Carlisle Street.

It was a long process. As long as I can remember (1950s), goalkeepers used to keep with their bare hands in dry weather, and used gloves in wet weather, and generally did not like wearing them, preferring to have the direct contact with ball, and thus a feel for it. As a kid playing in goal, the gloves were any old winter woollen gloves, and were pretty useless. Around 1960 (my under-13s year) I got as a present new high-tech gloves, which were basically a stringy material with ping-pong bat type rubber on the front of fingers and thumbs. I think I had about 3 pairs for my entire school career, and probably another 2 in adult life. I always preferred bare hands if the weather allowed.
British goalkeepers did not use gloves routinely until several decades later. I don't know who the first United keeper to wear gloves regularly was. The Kelly/Tracy era, perhaps? The marketing value of gloves will no doubt ensure that no keepers revert to bare hands. My grandson had got through about 4 pairs by the age of 10.

If they're the latex palm ones they grip really well, but last about five minutes

I can identify the two cars on the left

Apart from looking as though it's two cars in one, is the car on the right a Ford Consul?

I'd go with the Consul too. Funnily enough I saw one last Friday on the Parkway. It was grey and in original condition. Nice.

Go on then, whats the one on the far left, I can only see a bloody headlamp.

Last time I went in the East House was with Robby Blade ,we took the wives but no gunmen turned up.
What was the big restaurant on the Wicker ? Prawn Cocktail-Steak and chips - Black Forest Gateau - everytime.

Back to the Wicker anyone used to go here on a Saturday morning ? Mick Scott was a great bloke. Something for the weekend sir ?

There's a clue in that headlamp though. It's rectangular. It's a much more modern car than the other ones in the picture. I don't recall many 1960's cars having rectangular headlamps. So, I think it could be a Vauxhall Viva. Or possibly a Hillman Avenger.

There used to be about eight pubs on The Wicker but the decline of the tradional 'east end' industries meant the death of nearly all of them. I haven't been down there in years but - from Lady's Bridge towards the arches - there used to be a pub on the corner of Castlegate and Lady's Bridge which was 'Boulogne' the last time I looked. Diagonally across was The Lady's Bridge itself - a pub cum 'hotel' (doss house). Others, and still open is The Big Gun (on Google images as 'Opens at 08.00'!) and, in no particular geographical order, The Station, The Viaduct, The White Lion, The New White Lion, The Bull And Oak and The Brown Cow. I'm probably wrong but I vaguely remember one called (summat like) 'The Hole in the Wall' and 'The Bulls Mouth'. Plus there were several pubs just off The Wicker.

And if you had a bird with you and visiting these hostels of ill-repute failed to impress her, there was always Studio 5, 6, 7. :D

We'll have to disagree :p. I think that the low res photo show a more rounded headlamp with the side-light and indicator to the outside, thus giving the impression of being rectangular. The continuous front bumper also makes me think it's a Cortina Mk2

That's what I was thinking but didn't want to contradict Woodwaaard 's interpretation as the smart arse ;) is usually correct in these matters!

Saw my first X film there. “Emmanuelle” - the original one with Sylvia Kristel. .

I think that was the first time I’d ever seen a woman fully naked. It was definitely the first time I’d seen one swimming naked underwater. It almost blew my mind!

By gum!

Not sure if these count but this seems to be the best place to share them.
What started as a school Geometry book appears to have morphed in to Norman's scrap book starting in 1938.

Gold label ,on draught in the lady's bridge ,think it was the only place in england to have it on tap ,would only serve half's
Yes, Lady's Bridge was the only pub to serve Gold Label Barley Wine on draught, then Whitbread's moved production to Luton, shut that Brewery down, moved it to Samlesbury, near Preston and when sales dropped, built the plant on the back of the brewery and brought it back to Sheffield and sales went back up.

Couldn't agree more about Mick. Good bloke (although a wendy). He was married to my cousin, last time I saw him he was walking the dog and seemed a bit distant. Didn't know he was ill. I was on holiday in Norfolk for his funeral but got to know afterwards. I would have traveled back to pay my respects. Still a little dis-pleased about that.

The Bull and Mouth was the original name of the Boulogne. The Wicker pub was, I think, the Bull and Oak.
Went in the Brown Cow on what was the last night and there was a group of about four middle aged women stood at the bar, all of a sudden then scurried out and the landlady came out with a shovel as one of them had shat on the floor - oh happy days!

I took my first serious girlfriend there to see 'Emmanuelle' on our first date. Incredibly, it lasted for 2 years...
