Remember that fish tank down there. Must've been made from 4" thick glass."Hole in the Road" Spring 1970.View attachment 44082
You might have thought that they would have allowed the trees to grow bigger and f-up the roads and pavements.

Trigger Blade is correctNeed Silent Blade to confirm it.![]()
It was a long process. As long as I can remember (1950s), goalkeepers used to keep with their bare hands in dry weather, and used gloves in wet weather, and generally did not like wearing them, preferring to have the direct contact with ball, and thus a feel for it. As a kid playing in goal, the gloves were any old winter woollen gloves, and were pretty useless. Around 1960 (my under-13s year) I got as a present new high-tech gloves, which were basically a stringy material with ping-pong bat type rubber on the front of fingers and thumbs. I think I had about 3 pairs for my entire school career, and probably another 2 in adult life. I always preferred bare hands if the weather allowed.Looking at these old pictures from the games, is anyone able to pinpoint when goalkeepers started to wear gloves?
1963, two of the greats.

Bert has a signed (Greaves) copy of that photo. There won't ever be a better British goalscorer. That picture confused me as I couldn’t imagine a black Russian footballer at that time, nor was the strip the right colour, I got it in the end though.

Having been so critical of your City, I thought I'd better contribute and old map, if not an old photo! I think this is from about 1890 to 1900 .... look at all the markets, linked straight into the railway yard bringing in the livestock. See also how continuous the buildings and streets are straight across the valley and up the hill to the right up Hyde Park .... the map now will have gashes straight through it breaking the roads and connexions between this area and the commercial centre of town .....THAT is the result of bad planning or at least planning predicated on nothing more than long distance road links. And German bombing ........I was wondering which caused most harm?
Has it got stuck on the Town Hall steps![]()
Got stuck in Fitzalan Square trying to get to the Town Hall.
Hard to dispute thatBert has a signed (Greaves) copy of that photo. There won't ever be a better British goalscorer.
We were on Warminster Crescent. My mum was on Thorpe House Road, just below Lees Hall Road.
I wasnt at the match but after watching the highlights on YTV in the next day started my love affair with the Blades, became a Lane regular from the next home game (v Preston)FFS - I am in that picture, but hidden by an elbow above the G in Pagets!
Only stood there as I had my 13 year old cousin who was an Everton fan with me.
Jeez - remember that game like it was yesterday - we were top of D2, Everton top of D1 from memory.
