'Official' London Version on the left ........ DIY, provincial version on the right. I suppose the thing I remembered was that English Heritage (as was) do the ceramic versions in London and the provinces have to fend for themselves, sadly I suspect our local ones are more valuable as scrap.
There is (or was) one on a house on Dobbin Hill. I went across the road to read it. It said 'Nobody famous ever lived here'.

My recollection is a tallish slim man black overcoat, always collar, tie,3 piece suit though maybe a little threadbare and spats.
No, he lived with Russian Edna until she got murdered by a lorry driver.

This is Duke of Darnall (his real name is Harry Taylor) who was a deaf mute. He was very well known in the 1940s but the deaf community avoided him because of his eccentric ways

Not sure if he was tall but from what I hear , the clothes he wore were similar to what you say. I was told that he would carry advertising boards for Tailors.

He once slapped my mum on the shoulder because he thought she was laughing at him

Anyone got one of these? Joe's first record, "Marjorine." on the A side and "New Age of the Lily" on the B side.

Yes, purchased from Lamb's Music Shop, Huntingdon and it had to be ordered and the bloke behind the counter had never heard of him. 6 months later Joe was at No 1 and on Top Of The Pops.
They do blue plaques and there is one on Crookes WMC to clebrate Def Lepppard's first ever gig. That can't be a quarter of a mile from Joe's house on Tasker Road.

I have an uncle from the dark side who used to knock about with Joe in the early sixties, he was the one who first got me interested in Joe. Him and his mates used to go and watch him at St Columba's Church hall on Manchester Road, when he was Vance Arnold.

Get a plaque up there as well.....

He directed traffic from the top of
Commercial Street , Fitzallan Square and Haymarket which is out of the picture.
UTB
No,no, no that is what the little platform is for in the picture when it was busy a copper in a white coat would be stood on the platforn directing the traffic
