Martin Kuhl?

I've put this up and I'm now intrigued by the kit. I know at the time we had 3 Hobott kits. The Ajax home, an all white away and an all yellow sort of 3rd kit. Later we had the striped with the badges down them for home and away.

I think this might have been the yellow kit, but it could be the white one. It also has no sponsor, which would have been Cantors or Renault. All a bit confusing.

Yes it does look wonderful, doesn't it? So much more character than the modern concrete and glass structures. I notice a great looking church where the Peace Gardens are now, does anyone know whether it was bombed or bullldozed?

That I do know, St Paul's Church it was called. Pulled down to make way for the first proposed Town Hall extension, which was then cancelled when the war broke out....only in Sheffield!

Ultimately of course the horrible egg boxes fulfilled the need for the extension at the expense of some gorgeous architecture behind the Town Hall.

During that time period we had a lot of players who were fucking fantastic earlier in their career but completely shit by then. In addition to Peters, we had Givens. Later in the decade we had Phil Thompson.

Peters still lives in the Sheffield area IIRC, but isn't in the best of health.

Ian Rush, Jimmy Johnstone (Lisbon Lion, Celtic European Cup Winner), Steve Bruce, Peter Withe (Aston Villa European Cup Winner)....

Not quite sure why, but as soon as I saw that name (long forgotten), I thought he reminds of some of Clough's less successful signings. But I can't actually remember anything about him.
Heatherstone was fine as I remember, played wide right. As someone else mentioned he was incredibly unlucky. Didn't play many games but hit the post or bar something like 7 times. I seem to remember one shot hit the post and the bar. Don't think he ever did score before leaving, but there have been far worse players than him.

This was the first example of Dave Bassett's wheeler dealing to try and change the team.

From memory we got about £110k for Kuhl to Watford and they gave us Agana. Hetherstone and about £30k.

Strangely Kuhl only played a few games at Watford and moved on to Pompey.

My grandma was a regular customer at TwoSteps. In my view, it still does the best fish and chips in Sheffield. Some people think I'm a stick-in-the-mud.
After going to Mr Wall's swimming club at Heeley Baths with Mum and my sister on a Tuesday night we always popped into Two Steps for fish and chips.I seem to recall it was a Mum and son that ran it.
