I was going to post about these exact ones!Tasker Rd to Cross Lane, Crookes. Did it daily as a kid, walking to King Ted’s at Crosspool. There is (or was) a dry cleaning business part way along the route, the exhaust fumes used to make your head hurt if you stood outside it too long

More specifically, the one from Rokeby to Wheata?1. The gennels leading to Wheata
2. One that cuts threw concord Park into flats at Wincobank
3. Just up from Barry's bar to get into Sharrow
4. The whole of the Westfield Estate
5. The whole of the Wensley Estate
And there’s another Sheffieldism - good luck finding a birthday card etc with nannan on outside of the immediate area!& my Nanan’s house
Don’t sound so disappointed Rodders…Not quite a gennel, but the path from Marsh Lane, Crosspool to Crookes. Spent hours down there as a kid, how I didnt get bummed I’ll never know.
I was gonna say, I know that in Leeds it's a ginnel. Not gin line the drink, but g-in-ell.I stand corrected.
'Ginnel' is also used in Leeds.
Yeah, but it'd be worth the entry price to see.He will be that up for it on Saturday if picked he will kick Eze into the John Street stand and get banned for 10 games.

Used to live on Mulehouse Rd & that was my route to Lydgate School & my Nanan’s house.
I remember the dry cleaners too - a long forgotten memory. Used to know the people who lived at the very top of the gennel in the house that goes to a point.
There’s loads of gennels in Crookes & used ‘em all in my time as a kid.
The one opposite the Noah’s Ark was a favourite as were the unmarked ones around Loxley View, Longfield & Netherfield plus the one from Lydgate Lane to the top of Forres Rd.
Are the dirty and clean gennels on beaver Hill Rd in handsworth still dirty and clean?
It's a great gennel it really isI have fond memories of No2
Wasn't even a glint in his father's eye when proper Sheffielders were getting told to fuck off by the bouncers at Josephine's.
It must be a nightmare to policeMy Grandparents lived on #5.
That estate is full of gennels - it was like an escape room on that estate.
There was a bike track on there wasn’t there? Allotments on the other side if I remember. Not quite a gennel, but the path from Marsh Lane, Crosspool to Crookes. Spent hours down there as a kid, how I didnt get bummed I’ll never know.
That was when they were developing who areas of land. These days, the developers are just "filling in" little plots here and there, they can't put genels in because they only own that patch, and they are too tight to give up the space. And everyone is a nimby these days and dunt want people walking past their houses. My Grandparents lived on #5.
That estate is full of gennels - it was like an escape room on that estate.
Lucky that you didn’t meet Generous George in the gennel...View attachment 167779Yes! Was just thinking I’d heard that phrase somewhere; wondered what the name was all about.
