If we want to make any decent signings with the new investment in January it'd help being in a slightly more respectable position than we are at the moment because the usual draw of the club and money may be outweighed by being bottom, so reaching mid-table or just below (tough I know) would be good. The fixtures until pre deadline day are:
Port Vale (H) 12th
Peterborough (A) 2nd
Crewe (H) 18th
Shrewsbury (A) 13th
Gillingham (H) 17th
Bristol (A) 23rd
Walsall (H) 10th
Orient (A) 1st
Swindon (H) 7th
Stevenage (A) 20th
Oldham (H) 19th
Tranmere (H) 21st
Walsall (A) 10th
Brentford (H) 11th
Notts County (A) 22nd
Bradford (H) 4th
Colchester (A) 14th
Peterborough (H) 2nd
There's 54 points available there, we're currently 9 off 12th, 14 off the play-offs and 24 off top. Clearly there's a lot to play for in this time so hopefully the new manager can have a quick impact and get some much needed momentum. The highlighted games are the 3 before January which are all against sides around us so 9 points there would give some respectability to the club when looking to sign players. I think with all the new signings in the summer, too many more would just make things worse so I would focus on getting a new left back and striker (depending on Miller and Diego's returns) or winger.
Obviously a lot of rotation usually occurs around Christmas but the team which I think will give us the best chance of taking most of those 54 points would be something like this:
Long
McMahon Maguire Collins McFadzean (unlikely I know)
Brandy McGinn Coady Hall
Baxter/Diego (recovery permitting)
Taylor/Miller (potential partnership?)
