If we have serious aspirations for promotion, then we need to be putting sides like Bury relatively easily.

I thought a lot of the side, collectively and individually were poor today, i think we only started playing when Cresswell was on the pitch, and i can only single out Blackman and Cresswell as not being poor.

McDonald was quiet, McAllister non existant, not impressed with my first viewings of Westlake and Gallagher. I thought McMahon looked like he shouldn't have been on the pitch as he has been ill with a bug all week.

I hope this is just a blip, rather than the start of something more sinister. The bottom line is that we should be beating sides like Bury pretty comfortably if we are serious about going up. A lot of teams will come today and play the same game plan as Bury, which will be defend in depth, and hit us on the counter, and hopefully come away with a point. Today we didn't have the nous to play against that, and if we struggle against these tactics then this could be a long hard season.

To be fair their keeper was the man of the match, he kept them in it. Maguire's chance, Blackman at least 3 times. A bit of composure in front of goal we could've won by 3 or 4. What was disappointing though was the amount of individual errors , things like misplaced passes and over hit passes is just so frustrating. The fullbacks tried playing long way too often, Westlake wasn't coming deep and collecting the ball as Doyle usually would so we lobbed it. Mcdonald couldn't get into the game because he didn't have Doyle at the side of him geting stuck in.
We just looked rushed today, when we got it down on the floor and played our stuff with patience, we looked threatening
All in all its 2 points lost but not the end of the world. They should've scored at the end, and so should Cressy...

Westlake was a passer by and I honestly didn't know Mcallister was on the pitch till half time. We were very poor today but glad were playing Tuesday to try and prove it was just an off day.

I think a general lowering of expectations / wake up call may not be a bad thing. We're asking an awful lot of a team with two kids up front no wingers in the traditional sense and bresd and butter full backs . Forget not also we pretty much bimbled about until Xmas last year with a measurably better team . This League is harder than many think .

I think this league is awful and lacks the stand out teams such as us, Weds, Hudds and Charlton of last year. If we had the same team (never going to happen - Evans makes it impossible!) we would have walked the league. Sadly as much as the league is much worse; so are we. We still should have enough for top 6 but we need to improve in all areas and fast as we have been very ordinary so far for me.

It's not the end of the world. It's just a demonstration that our first XI is miles better than those who fill in. Even with Doyle and Flynn we're a winger short with McAllister looking a bit lost. With neither, the midfield just didn't function.

Well played to Blackman for doing most of the good stuff we produced. Dropping deep to give those behind him an option. Drifting in from the right to unleash some thumping shots.

Doyle and Flynn will return. Until then we need to dig and scrap. As such, Collins and Maguire need to do much better.

First time I've seen us this season, got to ask everyone; how much was today reflective on how we normally play?

God it was dire.

No 6 = worst I've ever seen
No 2 = just plain poor

I came to realise today how much I enjoyed Nuddy and Devlin.

We need a miracle if that is our standard.

Looking at the league table we have failed to beat all of the current bottom four. Yet, I can't believe that we will not finish higher than all the teams currently above us.

Early days yet and we are still unbeaten.

And let us remember we are in the third division, expect a misplaced pass/shot/blunder from us and them

Unfortunately, we have signed players who were not good enough to get into their respective previous teams:
Howard, McMahon, Hill, Williams, MacDonald, Westlake, Blackman, Cofie, Gallagher, Miller - MacAllister is simply not good enough Doyle, Collins are journeymen, Cresswell is washed up and can't last more than half a match - Despite the league being very, very poor we arn't good enough
This is Wilsons team, yes he's had to be prudent in his signings yet I would bet it's still the highest paid squad in the division !
Am I the only one who is rapidly growing tired of Wilson's lame comments after every game - yesterday we created buggar all in the second half, lucky not to lose it at the end against a team that will struggle to stave off relegation this year - yet Wilson was pleased that we remain unbeaten!!!
We have now dropped 8 points against the bottom four teams - not good enough Mr Wilson - sort it out!

N0 6 worst you have ever seen? Can't agree with that at all. He was no where near our worse player yesterday. For that take a pick from numbers 19,11,2,16, and 29 with a nod to numbers 5 and 15

Do you honestly think Danny will last the season out FB ? we can all see he has a record of being poor in the 2nd season at a new club, on top of that he has had to get rid of the few decent players we had. For me there is still a big question mark over Danny, time will tell no doubt.

Nothing unfortunate about it , it's because we are broke

Because we are broke why waste wages on the likes of Westlake (not good enough for Walsall) Miller (not good enough for Crewe) Williams (not good enough full stop)Porter, MacAllister, Hill, Howard et al
Whatever we are now paying Cresswell is too much and Kitson?(what is that signing about!)
I would have rather give Long, MacFazdean, Kennedy, Ironside and crew a run before the above has beens and never have beens!!!
Wilsons team now (Cannot understand how many strikers we now have Cofie, Blackman, Cresswell, Porter, Kitson, Ironside yet only MacDonald on a good day capable of creating anything for them)

So just play the youth team then ? Sure you wouldn't complain if they were getting mulleted 5-0 every week as long as we weren't paying em much

One thing is for sure teams will know if they stop McDonald playing we have nothing else in the locker.

We were poor Saturday there is no denying it. Lacked any sort of penetration in the final third and looked sluggish in possession. The lack of width continues to be a problem and with Doyle missing we looked far too rigid across the middle. Felt sorry for McDonald, he had to carry the midfield single handedly as the rest were passengers. McAllister doesn't do enough for me, I felt the game passed him by against Bournemouth and did on Saturday as well. He's an honest player and does plenty of running but thats all I've seen from him so far. Needs to up his game.

Gallagher is a player I rate but he struggled to get into the game on Saturday. I'll put it down to a lack of games. Westlake looked lost on the right of midfield and was neither here nor there. We could have easily lost that game at the end even though I thought 1-1 was a fair result. The whole performance showed our lack of depth, we are still 2 or 3 players short of having a solid squad. As soon as we lose a couple to suspension or injury we look very average.

well that did'nt take long did it,first real game we've struggled in don't the other team know there supposed to turn over and have there belly's tickled for a 5-0 thumping said to the young un on satdi,we have know right to beat any team in this or any league we have to earn that right.our keeper newish to our set up will get better at talking to centre backs, new full back, the word new says it all mcmahon played out of position nough said, all the doyle complainers no what he does know stops and spoils, new lad on the wing again that word new,2 kids up front blackman seems to be settling in,kitson first sub appearance lets not do a vile''tin pot clubs'''our massive support our massive[yuk]stadium, etc, etc,i still think we'll go up 1 of only 2 teams unbeaten in this league you don't get promoted in september just looking at scot premier does anyone think celtic won't win it.thought not. chin up blades do we need players yup can we afford them prob not.were going to have to mend and make do. Dublin,
Spot on post - but probably lost on too many on here. The Blades have not started as well as we'd all like BUT we have a host of new and (generally) younger players coming into the squad. Couple this with the disruption caused by the two sendings off and it's hardly surprising that we've not looked as fluent as last season yet. The way in which Wilson likes his teams to play relies on players building up an understanding and confidence in eachother ... which takes time. KMac is our key playmaker and he was outstanding last season once we had a settled 11 and he knew exactly what to expect from the players around him. We also know that he benefits massively from having Doyle doing the dirty (oops) work next too him.
Bury have already played a number of teams that will be up there and I heard from a key guy in their set up after the match that United have by far the most impressive set of players they have faced (or are likely to). I don't think we're giving them much credit for an excellent performance against us.
I'm not a blind clapper - I get frustrated by poor distribution from the likes of Hill... and young Harry who continues to try to play a killer 60 yard ball far too often. I also think that we lack consistent quality out wide. That said, I think Gallagher is a very useful addition who needs some match sharpness. Doyle and Flynn were a big miss and LJF will be a huge boost to our attacking play on the left when he's back in the team and up to speed. The two young lads up-front are exciting prospects who need nurturing - and we have others in the same bracket such as Miller. All of this takes time to sort out though, so I'm more than happy that we're sitting just 4 points off the top, having made an unbeaten start. As the season progresses and players build confidence and consistency, we will get better and better. One of the major things that could stop that happening is so-called Blades fans jumping down the management's throats or getting on players backs because we're not running away with the league yet.
If we were all just a little bit more realistic about the position that we're in and our expectations then we'd see that Danny is on the right lines again and we can look forward to another exciting season ... and yes -promotion should be a good possibility for us if we get behind them and give the youngsters the confidence to progress.

Hoyland mate, not a clapper also, but someone trying to see the woods for the trees,we have the prospects of a good team with a good shower of young un's coming through but we have to be patient baby steps at first before walking were going to get set backs play shite at times and lets be honest if he chucked in a load of our youg un's and we got spanked 5-0 would we have the guts to sit back and take it all this 2'nd season bollax as well look at the clubs wilson was at before did they have the set up, crowds, potential, our club posess,no thats not a vile statement saying how great we are either, this is a good club to follow and hopefully soon it will be a great club to follow.[hopfully in my lifetime]within 30-40 years:D

Totally agree Dublin - let's hope the lads (and Wilson) get given the chance to progress as we think they can.

Dont think anyone is being unrealistic, we're in the third division and expectations will always be high at a big club. Most of the comments are plain and simple observations that we were poor and we were. I for one dont expect us to easily roll anyone over, some games are going to be difficult and a lot of teams will try to do what Bury did by defending and trying to hit us on the break.

I'm a realist and we wont beat everyone. I will however call it how it is and we drew at home to an ordinary side on Saturday because we were poor. Yes players were missing, yes we have new signings. Everyone has to deal with that this time of year so its not a valid excuse for a poor performance imo. Still behind Danny and the players but for what they all get paid I will criticise if I feel it is deserved. Saturday wasn't good enough, must do better.

Certainly lost on those of us who like a bit of punctuation :)

As for the point, I didn't go so can't comment first hand but when I spoke to the lad I always go with his description was "Shite". Does that make him a bad person, or unrealistic? No, it means he didn't think we played well (pretty much as I thought we were poor against Shrewsbury).
I thought we improved against Bournemouth and perhaps the suspensions have hindered us, however, this idea that we shouldn't recognise when we don't play well is very strange in my view.

My real worry is that although many have said on here how we are looking forward to seeing the youngsters this season, the first chance we might see some of them is passed over in favour of players of experience playing out of position instead. Not a good idea.

My real worry is you missed a SCF alert.
