Lunny in possession is good at going no where.
Yeah he was on the right before their first, but instead of running into the space behind, he checked out and went backwards and we lose the ball.. It's almost like his first instinct is to go back and safe, does it regularly.

Thanks for your performances in the Championship and the first 6 months of last season where you were a pleasure to watch but now is the time to move on. We have a lot to thank him for but today he reminded me of Dean Hammond. It's definitely time to step down a division. I'm sure he would do a brilliant job in a top end championship team that dominates possession

I wonder how much Wilder now regrets not signing Swift in summer and letting Freeman join Forest on loan. This dodgy under performing midfield has cost United so far this season with little creativity and few crosses into the box.
Swift was injured, that would have been useful.

Why spend 23m on a 6th striker, when we are one injury away from playing the midfield we had out today? Plus throw in the loaning of Freeman... A complete fuck up imo. Wilder and company are 100% responsible for this mess.

I agree with you. The money should’ve been spent on another midfielder and an O’Connell replacement.

I rarely write, but today's performance by Norwood has incensed me more than his appearances usually do; and that's difficult.
This is a footballer who has significant gaps in ability around the most important skills and attitudes needed of a Premiership player, even more so a midfielder.
He is frightened off contact; cannot/will not therefore tackle or gives away possession with consummate ease.
He requires a long time to process his immediate context; simply slow.
He constantly points to other players what they should do, particularly after he has cocked one up (Hammond was the master of this strategy of trying to deflect on to others and give the impression of being authoritative).
His interviews betray inappropriately arrogant mood and clear lack of awareness of his own deficiencies.
Give him lots of space, lots of time and ask him to pass long and he is reasonably reliable. Other scenarios prove comprehensively too challenging for him at this level.
This is not new. He has been responsible over months for many unforced errors that have led to goals. How has Chris Wilder persevered with such a player? It shows how much you can get away with if you act as if there's nothing wrong with your ability, an easy task if you actually believe you're good.
I was paradoxically relieved when the pundits directly identified Ollie Norwood's deficiencies. I respect his defenders on this site, but they have been holding views based on his contribution long ago. It would be unwise to scapegoat him as there are other elements that are also behind our recent deterioration, but there is enough to justify the view that Ollie Norwood should not be selected.

Can understand why CW/AK have been caught out.
Last season we looked like a team that had it all under control, and had the time too bring on any new players ,But who could have predicted not only what's happened off field but also that it would have all blown up in their faces so quickly.

[ Hold it, there's got to be some cleaver sod out there who knew all this was coming...... ]

But lets not forget that this season must also have been one hell of a learning curve for them as well. ...........👍

Most Blades fans can't fucking wait for him to have a mare. He was awful today, no getting away from it. But fuck me the pitchforks are out quicker for Norwood than any other player in the squad and its embarrassing to see, the little shoutbox group especially cream themselves if a mistake leads to a goal. Won't be good in the championship apparently because he's poor against world class players, apparently.

Ollie me old son your performance today was FUCKING SHITE!!!!!! sorry my old mate

If this was a Spanish soap opera, Oliver Norwood would be laid up in hospital in a coma with a comically oversized bandage wrap on his head, and we'd discover it was actually his evil twin brother Olivier that had been playing in his place, and he was a Wednesdayite, and he'd never kicked a football.

What a shite performance form Norwood he deserves peleters and rightfully so

But all these morons saying get him out need to get a grip

Hes been one of our best players for the past 3 season and he will be next season if we’re in the championship

And then there are those like me who haven't said anything about Norwood's weaknesses because we clung on to hoping his contributions would outweigh the cost. There are those who prayed (albeit atheistically) that as the ball bounced off him it wouldn't cost a goal and see Pommpey taking one of players to pieces again. And the truth is that not one person on this board was 'waiting for him to have a mare'.

But he did. The squad is threadbare, but we're all looking around to see how we can knock something together that would remove the need to play ON. That there must be someone out there, anywhere, who can be brought in this transfer window, like tomorrow, so that we can at least put a body on the pitch.

Can he still do something in the Championship? Well, maybe, but we haven't made it there yet and if he's playing, in whatever league, every opposition manager has just had their job made easy. Not all will reject the gifts as Bruce did and today's performance would only make any manager who didn't put Norwood under a bit of pressure (and only a bit seems to be required on a day like today) look inept.

But again, nobody was relishing Norwood playing like shit and gifting Spurs two goals.

All in all, decent performance and I was pleased with he attacking intent - but once again let down by individual errors.

If most of us on here can see that Norwood and Fleck simply aren’t good enough why can’t Chris Wilder? I want Chris Wilder to stay but his playing of blokes not up to the job in hand really is starting to test my patience.
I agree that they both are sadly lacking this season. But who have we got that could come in and replace them?

And 22 months ago??
22 months ago they were the second best midfield in the Championship.

EDIT : They were the midfield of the second best team in the Championship, although they were arguably the best midfield in the division that season.

Normally been his biggest fanboy, last season his defensive contributions we're massively underrated along with his passing. But since restart has been a constant embarrassment to himself.

Weak.
Slow.
Careless.
Inconsistent.
Unconfident.

Unfortunately he can do things that none of our other midfielders can. At first I was pissed off that he was brought back by Wilder, a few pings and sweeping passes and I forgave that decision.
A few games later, watching him give the ball away, shirk tracking men, put in weak challenges, pick easy negative passes, hit the first man, give the opposition a chance to break every single game etc etc... I want him out for good.

It’s not his fault but he’s just that bit too slow for this level. No doubt he’ll shine again next year in the Championship. For now I’d like to see him move out of that central deep position if he has to play. Or we at least get some legs sat next to him.

Stop peddling that myth about Berge.
I said, and still believe, he will be a good signing.

But nobody wanted him, he wasn't 'coveted', his agent has been desperate for a PL club to buy him for 2 years, and Wilder took the bait.

He was highly rated across Europe and some big clubs were said to be monitoring him at the time. 🤷‍♂️
