Any one at a loose end today could do worse than attending a match at grassroots level. I'll personally be at Sandygate watching Hallam, United season ticket holders will get in for free, providing they show their season card at the turnstiles. Unfortuneately pig season ticket holders will also get in for nowt.

Probably go up to Hallam myself too. They won 7-0 during the week, so hoping for some similar entertainment!

Blimey O'Reilly, this couldve been a right old wild goose chase going to watch Worcester today..I spent tuesday/wednesday plotting train times and how best to get to Shawbury (near Shrewsbury) as theres no train station there, the closest ones being 7 miles away...then there was some strange train routes I was being offered by the ticketline site, one even ventured upto Crewe for a change to come back down  , wired upto Whitehawks satnav via Wales I reckon! Train tickets looked like they were costing anything between 35 and 55 quid so I was about to knock it all on the head and just go and watch Bromsgrove instead.

Then I noticed on Shawburys wiki page it said they played at another place, called Wem, similar distance from Shrewsbury again but with a station (train fare still costing an absolute fortune though!)

But...finally someone posting on our forum said about being beware of going on a wild goose chase as Shawbury play at Ludlow Town FCs ground....40 miles away!!! Must be paying off for them as they are rock bottom of the league haha.

Thankfully Ludlow is a closer train journey but still a pain in the arse because theres no direct route up there...have to go across to Hereford and then up to Ludlow, £17.90 return is reasonable! 2 hour journey...weirdly I cycled the 38 miles to Ludlow a few times back when I worked in the bookies and I was quicker than the train lol, oh well.

Happy Non League Day!!

Getting into Pyongyang is easier than that.

Stocksbridge PS are the top performing non league club in this area, they also have close affinities with the Blades. They are playing an FA Trohy game at Bracken Moor 3pm today.

Hallam FC do this for a reason, more people in the ground more food/drink etc. sold.
Cups of tea and a burger doesn't keep a club going, admission fees do.....get the money at the door first and anything else is a bonus......just common business sense.

Maybe you should offer your services and tell them they don't know how to run their club then.

Instead of going and flashing your season ticket how's about paying the admission fee and helping a local club financially...... Just a thought.

Hallam FC have offered it to gain a competitive edge in getting bodies through the turnstiles over other local sides playing today. You can’t really suggest that people are taking advantage by taking them up on the offer.

People will spend money there and likely go back and pay full price if they enjoy it.

Plus, its an incentive to get people back when you do have to pay.

If they can get an extra 80 people and 20 of those regularly go and pay after today, that’s more lucrative than an extra 50 paying admission today only and 10 then going regularly.

All three of our non league clubs have stadiums that are a reight trek if you don't own a car. If Sheffield FC move to the Olympic Legacy Park I imagine they'd get a boost in attendances as it's on the tram route and pretty easy to get to

You can get the 51 bus to right outside Hallam. Takes 15-20 mins from Town.

They're moving back to Olive Grove eventually.

Yep I saw that's their aspiration, but surely it would make more financial sense for them to be tenants at OLP, with a pitch and stand already in place. Maybe there are sentimental reasons to return to Olive Grove, but a stadium back in Sheffield city would be almost as good

Well the Olive Grove project has been largely crowdfunded, plus, aside from the sentimental aspect there's also a unique selling point in having a ground where football as the world knows it essentially began.
Interest in the club has grown significantly in the past few years. People literally come from all over the world to see them. Including a large contingent from Borussia Dortmund and FC Köln last year.

Sadly attracting the interest of the locals has been the difficult part.

Shepshed Dynamo looks the place to go for kinky football

I saw United play a preseason friendly at the Dovecote in 1998 (I think), Andy Walker and Chris Bettney (giveimarun) were the only ones from the first team squad that made an appearance. Former Sierra Leone international Ibrahim Bah was I think at Shepshed at the time.

In addition to being located on the hilariously named Butthole Lane, there is allegedly some claim that the Dovecote has in history to being mentioned as a village sporting ground in the Domesday Book. I know we lay claim to a lot of history at the Lane, but that would certainly beat it for longevity.

Sheffield FC should have been based in a more central location for ages now. There's a fair bit of prestige there with the 'world's oldest club' title and the council should do more to help them. It's potentially a good attraction for the city. But no. They stay in Dronfield indefinitely.

That would have been previous guise of Shepshed Charterhouse FC if im not mistaken? That wouldve been their best years as they were higher up the non league pyramid playing at the old Beazer Homes League Level.

Edit...oops, misread that as 1988 not 1998 but anyway.

The Charterhouse era was I think a bit before my time. I think Julian Joachim may have played for Dynamo before he retired as another notable ex-player.

I also can’t find any evidence of it, but I could have sworn Russell Slade May have managed them before he joined Howard Kendall’s staff at the Lane. I seem to recall there was a link to United that led to this friendly happening, and that’s the only one I can think of. Nothing searchable on the web seems to support this mind, but Slade did have some involvement with Midlands teams before he joined us.

Well...what started as a nice scenic train trip turned into a bit of a nightmare thanks to a pretty horrible game and some oiks who couldnt handle their carrier bags full of fruits of the forest cider causing trouble in the last 20 minutes.

I had the misfortune of bumping into them at Hereford station and then tagging along with them all the way to Ludlow and the mile walk to the ground...

Heres one of them enjoying himself..

Sheffield lost 0-3 today sadly, so the FA Trophy dream is over for another season. Bit of a harsh scoreline to be honest.

Nice to bump into Large Mendonca Small Mendonca and SwissBlade today at least.

First time down to see FC today. Nice to see you all as well. I was on my best behaviour as I was with the missus

Sheffield FC were very poor, wasted a lot of the possession they had and a lot of the players looked like they were much slower than Frickley Athletic. No 3 and no 11 looked decent players for Sheffield though. No 8 for
