Do I really need to suggest clearly established championship players before they move? Fuck me.

Have a poke around mongo, you’ll find a few posts about Sam Baldock and Adam Armstrong at least. I’m not going to waste my time providing that proof, if you want it you’ll find it.

And I do apologise that Ricky suggests some good players that would improve us and I/a few tend to agree with him on most counts.

No you don't have to but it's much easier to suggest them once they have moved. Almost as if you weren't even aware of them before they moved, or before Ricky mentioned them.

I'm not going to spend my time looking for something that isn't there. I don't really care anyway, it was just a throw away comment, I was giving you a chance to prove how much you apparently know.

Incidentally how many times have you seen Adam Armstrong play?

If we don't sign a striker then we don't have the finance to get the players Wilder wants
Simple as that.

One man's pie in the sky is another man's ambition.

Why would the club deserve a battering because they're not just signing any old striker to keep the fans happy?

Now will you stop throwing things around and put your toys away please or I'll have to nip over to mumsnet and get some proper advice on controlling unruly kids.

It doesn't matter who we sign though, we just need to sign someone, absolutely anyone, in order to show that we have some ambition.

Radio Sheffield got me in a tizzy this morning, the cunt reading the news said the window was shutting today Thursday..............it shuts Friday right...............erm

I'd be very surprised if the OP is 100% correct. Whilst I'm sure there is a lot of frustration within the Tech Board at the inability to get deals, particularly for a striker, over the line, I really can't see CW giving up 2 days before the window closes. As demonstrated last season, as the deadline looms, moves happen and players become available. Whether the price they become available at is within CW's valuation range is another factor. However, Utd are now doing the equivalent of trying to pull in a club at 1.50am, the choice is likely to be lower your standard or do something to impress e.g. throw money around.

It might as well shut now and put us all out of our misery

If our main targets are out of reach for whatever reason I really think we should bring in someone even if they aren't the guaranteed starter just to see us through until January. Last season there was a stage when we had Sharp, Donaldson and Clarke all out injured. We had Brooks and Evans to replace them. This season we have Woodburn and Lavery.

If they are that good why did none of them get snapped up by top end championship clubs? ......They may (or may not) be reasonable (at best) but as CW has said, they have to have certain criteria and fit into the way we play. The fact he hasn’t been interested in any of them tells it’s own story as judging by his current targets the 4 you mentioned were clearly within budget. As has been said, why loan a player just for the sake of it? We maybe thin on the ground but it’s better than someone who’s unsuitable
3 of the 4 are recent promotion winners.

The rest at the top of the division are pretty fully stocked in terms of firepower, and Villa (who aren't) have higher aims - Tammy Abraham.

Tomer Hemed is better than any of our forwards. Wells and Armstrong offer pace and the ability to run in behind. Baldock does and he never stops buzzing around.

They're all more suitable than Lavery.

Exactly my point.

People say we 'shouldn't sign someone for the sake of it' - well we really f**king should. I can't be doing with Caolan Lavery upfront at any stage.

If we don’t sign a striker we have no ambitions of getting promoted. Simple as that.

Watched so many good championship strikers go to other, frankly lesser clubs while we’ve been chasing pie in the sky.

IF WE WERE to sign nobody the club would deserve every bit of the battering they’ll receive.

...in the land of the self-entitled foot-stamper.

Sam Baldock. Sam Fucking Baldock.

I don't think signing a 4th striker would be for the sake of it. Even clubs at League One and Two have at least 4 strikers.

Just a question do we know any these players you name would have wanted to come here? Geography and players wishes have a part to play too.
If you’re at Brighton for instance and presumably living near there are you going to want to live in a hotel in Sheffield or play for a London club or SE at least and stay living at home?
Not always as easy as saying we should get him or him.
Gary Neville has raised the issues for northern teams in regards to investors and player recruitment and maybe that’s an issue for us too

An ellipses has 3 dots chief, like so...
And I’m a bit scared about your mindset if you don’t think the 4 players listed improve us.
Have you ever suggested anyone? Oh wait - no. Unlike you I actually watch football and know what I’m on about though.

The wisdom that is to be found on Junior Computer Manager is not ‘strained. It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven upon the place beneath.

In League 1 we had Sharp, Clarke, Lavery and Hanson.

Two years later in the Championship we have Sharp, Clarke, Lavery and McGoldrick.

Slow and steady improvement...

The Nigel Clough ideal.

Oh definitely mate, I'm not saying otherwise.

But Wells for example was Huddersfield last year and moved to Burnley. I think he'd have chosen us over QPR.
Armstrong was at Newcastle and moved to Blackburn (may have been settled after his loan last year)

The other 2 maybe that's a point. Baldock, Hemed going from Brighton to Reading and QPR respectively.

Teenage Illiterate Lager Drinkers. I said it wouldn’t work...

We have got 4 strikers. Unfortunately one of them is Caolan Lavery, one is the injury magnet Dave McGoldrick, then we have confidence drained 33 year old Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp.

We are desperate

Tufty didn’t want any of them. I know it’s difficult with a granite skull but he pursues players that he wants; not the ones you and the other kids in the nursery want.

Three or four of you are; for attention. Perhaps you could dance the knee-jerk together rather than subjecting the rest of us to mind-numbing, repetitive drivel? Or maybe a quick game of Junior Computer Manager?

Thinking about it more, if Utd are struggling to get a striker in, I'd be minded to have another go for Freeman at QPR with a view to Woodburn being the fourth striker. I've been far from convinced by him so far and can't see him dislodging Duffy when CW opts to play a #10.
