No Gary Sinclair?

As I said on the other thread, if you want to blame someone for not having the proper stadium announcer, then blame the proper stadium announcer who decided he’d rather piss off to Turkey to play golf than be here for one of our most important games of the season.

The only bits I noticed were when he announced the teams. It was like;

Number 1 - Deeeeeeeeeeeeean Henderson

As mentioned he didn’t announce the half time change. (I suppose he should have asked - any substitutions - but maybe due to nerves or whatever he forgot.)

And he make a mistake when they made a double substitution as that confused him.

But why should this have a long thread. We should be more worried about how we are going to beat Preston. Let’s hope we can.

He was clearly nervous.

Good job we lost, poor sod would have been crucified.

If I was him I would just stand and stare at everyone like Warnock.
What a fuss over nowt.

Everyone deserves a break when pitched against GS who's been doing the job for what seems decades now. One thing he didn't get right though (in my opinion) was the enthusiastic way he announced the "man of the match" award around the 88th minute, just as we'd completely had the stuffing knocked out of us. Time and a place mate :) we couldn't give a fuck who'd won motm.........

This is it. Stereotypical Smashie and Nicey style cliched, over chirpy DJ nonsense. I like my announcers to be dark, edgy and manly.

I thought he did alright apart from the MOTM bollocks, reading the teams out early is something that should probably happen every game since Sinclair often witters on for so long that he's still reading out the subs when the ref is ready to kick off. With the speed he read them out on Saturday we'd have scored before he finished reading them out if he started at the same time GS normally does. That said there should have been a quick run though of the team before the start for anyone who arrived just before kick-off, no saying number before every number, no long dramatic pause to keep pace with the slow graphics on the screen, just bang out both sides starting 11s quickly with enough space for a cheer between each of ours and run through the subs.

Not having the same boring music as the last 20 years in the run up to kickoff did make a nice change though, he just needed his mic levels sorting out a bit and pay attention with the subs. He seemed quite unprepared for something that's been prepared for for weeks (Sinclair mentioned he was replacing him for this match at the Rotherham game). If anyone had any trouble hearing, it wasn't because the speakers were too quiet, just that the fans were making too much noise.;)

I thought he did ok overall too. An improvement on last time for sure.

But he made a bollocks of the substitution at half time and forgot the MOTM voting bit! The “applause” in the 53rd minute for Ted Burgin didn’t happen till the 54th minute (maybe not his fault?) and half way through it the crowd forgot about it because exciting things were happening on the pitch. (Which is why I say stop this silly interruption of the game in the “x” minute and pay your respects at half time if they are a servant of the club).

I like the regular pre match build up music btw- let’s me know where we are at timewise and gets my anticipation heightened.

His reading out of things at half time sounded just like that. Like he was reading it.

Sinclair makes it sound like a personal conversation between you and him. That’s a skill. That’s the difference.

Whether you like Sinclair personally or not is a different matter, but imo he’s bloody good at what he does- and that’s why!

If there was to be a one to one conversation with him a la Bramall Lane style I'd l'd have someone prepped to phone me with an "emergency" get out call, green bin lid left open, tea bag left on kitchen side, Ricky slating Blades fans on S2 or something.

Also remember the brass band as a preteen

Try again, just to say remember band but cannot remember their name. One cornet player was female and quite well known nation wide performing on radio and theatres. Joan Hind was her name maybe other may remember her. T'ant been a good day all round, up & onward.

I think it was the Sheffield Recreation Brass Band - or something similar.
