I went to school on Parson Cross , one of only 2 Blades season ticket holders from a roster of circa 400. They were definitely calling me Pigfan from early 1979.Not sure about the pig farms but older Owls and Blades can verify that the pig nickname started being commonly used from 1974.
Wednesday designed a new modern badge that they were very proud of.
Blades in the mid 70’s ridiculed their new badge and said the Owl looked more like a pig.
And hence the legend was born.
In the late 70’s at school I used to draw their new badge and show it to my class mates, then as if by magic in seconds i’d change it to a pig. Also in the 70’s and 80’s, you’d see the Wednesday badge graffitied on walls in Sheffield
Then some Blade would come along and add the pigs snout, pigs trotters and curly tail to their badge
Same as you’d see “Owl”s grafitti and then a Blade would add a F, to make it “Fowls”.
From memory the first time I ever heard a Wednesday fan call it us pigs was in the early to mid 80’s.

The whole pig thing is a bit of an embarrassment to both sides imo, but not nearly as much as ‘ We’re all X aren’t we?’
View attachment 39061 Are we the pigs because we play in red & white stripes like a pack of streaky bacon?
Why don't the owls eat bacon, because it would be eating there own kind?

It's one of life's mysteries, like where does the sun go at night?
what's at the end of the universe, a brick wall? if so what's on the other side of the wall?
My first season was 70/71 , and with your’s being 74/75 we both had a brilliant introduction, the slight downside being we’ve never hit similar levels since ....!Talking from personal experience the 1st season I went to see United was 1974-75.
My uncle and his mates who took me to matches were definitely referring to Wednesday as pigs during that season.
Before the 70’s most club badges were complicated/ intricate traditional coat of arms style badges.
Wednesday rebranded themselves with a modern simplified outline of an Owl.
They were really proud of their new badge, the simplicity of the badge which could be instantly recognised from a distance was ahead of its time so Unitedites used to mock it, saying it looked more like a pig than an Owl.
Anyone know where to get the Greasy Chip Butty ringtone for a Nokia 3210?Hasn't this been discussed before?![]()
I've no idea what them old maps show but I heard there was one clearly showing a farm there. Then this one has surfaced from Museum yesterday.
I was hoping someone would get the map showing the farm to shut the Wendy up on fb talking Pig iron this pig iron that
The pig farms were established in 1857, a full 10 years before the Pigs were formed.Just seen a map apparently from Weston park museum showing original ordnance survey map from 1855 of where Wendies ground is. Doesn't seem to show any farm or piggery !?!
I know it's been talked about over and over but I'd rather stick to Wendies than pigs if that's the case.

Well if ever proof were needed, here we have it, with a vaguely similar font to the rest of the map (albeit very slightly darker) proudly proclaiming 'Pig Farm'![]()
It's the best I could do on my phone! Haha
This the image you’re all looking for?
There was an old animal called Wendy.Wendy house it is then![]()
