No booze at the Derby.

Fucking joke.

We have the worst police force in the country.
Wanting people to get to a half full stadium (because they’ve closed half the seating off) an hour before kick off... but oh sorry you can’t drink any beer. You’ll have to have water or pop. Because obviously you cant possibly have a drink on derby day.

Fucking thick cunts.

Only applies to away fans. Home fans can get a beer. Covered in 'What time tha suppin?' thread.

Excellent idea from the filth.

Allow everyone to be without alcohol in a safe, enclosed and controlled environment so that they head to the pubs and town centre in even greater numbers after the match.

Slow hand clap for Englands very own L.A.P.D.

Ahahaha. More perfect evidence the SYP have not got a clue what they're doing! You can just imagine the meeting discussing their contingency plans.

Copper 1; Lets make sure we get all the fans in the ground early.
Copper 2; Great idea, how will we encourage them to do that?
Copper 1; Ban the sale of alcohol
Copper 2; Genius

All that's gonna do is force people that usually drink in the ground to drink in the pubs. That will create more issues outside the fucking ground.

Edit.. Just seen its away fans only. Still, why not try to get the pigs inside by saying "away fans aren't allowed in ANY nearby pub and are therefore encouraged to drink inside the ground".

So if I’ve read this correctly, no boozing during the match but by all means pre load beforehand.
How can banning drinks during the match result in a more sober crowd, if that’s the intention?
Thank God I’ve never had the mispleasure of living under the SYP.
I’m ex Old Bill and even in police circles SYP has a poor reputation stretching back to Hillsborough, the miners strike and no doubt farther into history.

Phew that's a relief. Just another misleading article in The Star then:)

I'm not having that. Somehow, the article will be factual in some tenuous way. The hack may well have spelled their own name correctly. Maybe.

What a rag it is, getting worse daily.

Their story is simply reporting what the SYP statement said, and the statement said 'no booze inside the ground'. They didn't specify that it was only away fans who can't get a beer. People read the statement and the club had to clarify their position.

It's almost as if SYP thought social media didn't exist and that people would just take their word for it. Wouldn't surprise me.

''We’re taking the safety of everyone attending this match incredibly seriously and I appreciate that while the searches may seem frustrating as it can lead to delays at turnstiles, they are especially important following the awful terrorist attacks that the UK has seen this year''
"Therefore I hope that you will understand why the searches are being done and plan for a little additional waiting time when you arrive while those searches take place''

So PLOD why specifically do you mention terrorism for this particular game?
There have been 13 other blades home games, plus thousands of games up and down the country NON of which required anything like people arriving an hour early
Policing is done through consent, start closing a few pubs, alcohol ban inside the ground, lying about terrorism and you are going to piss off tens of thousands of fans who have successful enjoyed many football matches without your thinly disguised BS.

If it's only applicable to one set of fans but they don't specify anything you'd assume it's the home fans it applies to wouldn't you?

But no. They're referring to the away fans - 2,500 out of 30,000. Intelligent.

It is factually correct. You won't be able buy booze in Bramall Lane. Doesn't say anything about Shoreham Street, John Street or Cherry Street

Good point. :)
The article has disappeared now though.

The fecking Stir and SYP From arse Elbow

please re arrange these words to make a well known sentence.

It’s a farce, people who want to get tanked up will have been doing so all day, and it’s nigh on impossible to get drunk on the cats piss served at football grounds as the queues are so long you only have time to get one call in anyway.

That gurning fool on the article picture sums South York’s Police up perfectly

I'm no fan of the team the Blades play on Friday, nor of their truffle bothering followers.. But...

What difference (apart from lessening their enjoyment of the spectacle) does the decision to stop them drinking, but not the rest of us, have? It's ridiculous and further demonstrates how the authorities, and SYPlod in particular treat football fans on a much less equal measure than many other groups in society.

You're dealing with people who just have a small sherry before dinner and dress up as if they're real policemen. They've no idea about the world of a football fan.
