I don't want Anelka or anyone similar. Absolutely not.

I'm interested to know, however, for how long should we put our faith in a young player from the Academy? Chappell years? Ironside years? McFadzean years?

You know, some players just aren't good enough, wherever they originate from, and no amount of wishful thinking will alter that.

personally I think the jury is still out on McFadzean, I feel he has the ability, jut not the attitude, and hopefully Clough can sort that out.

But I agree with you, to some extent, I only stated given the two choices, I would go for the youth player.

Not directly. He has a responsibility to the club, not sponsors.

I'm not disputing he should apologise to the club and fans, just not the sponsors
are you actually defending his actions here?

The sponsors kicked up a fuss because Zoopla's owner is Jewish. I'm Jewish and would feel exactly the same.

Anelka probably isn't anti-Semitic; more and idiot (but we probably knew that judging by his attitude at previous clubs), but his comedian friend most definitely is. Still wouldn't want him near my club if he's willing to make that gesture so publicly.
of course he is anti-semitic

It seems as though the thread has caused a few issues with the majority on here - isn't that what debate is about?

As for the morals of certain Blades fans - it is going to be very interesting when a certain Ched Evans comes back on the scene in October.

By the same token he will not be welcomed either then?

Anelka's actions were very visible whether calculated to insult or not.
On the other hand Ched is seeking to have an unjust conviction quashed .If/when he returns to play football. I sincerely hope that he will come back to United. More [importantly I would like to see his conviction overturned.

Swiss, come on lets drop it before anything gets offensive please. You say that sponsors shouldn't influence events on the pitch, sad to say they do so all the time.

The whole industry is ridden with the sponsors influence, they run the game.

For instance, Kick off times are dictated by the TV companies that sponsor the industry. Who is Kevin McCabe but our sponsor?

My personal feeling is, given the circumstances, de facto, Anelka, by dint of wearing the Zoopla logo on his 'uniform' and advertising said company had a responsibility to not drag that company's name into disrepute.

We are extremely lenient with the bad behaviour of footballers, cheating being endemic, but racist gestures are way beyond the pale. Because Anelka was photographed wearing a Zoopla shirt, it identified the company with racist salute he was waving,
so of course he owes the owners an apology, especially as they have been offended.

If they had come out and laughed it off and said they weren't bothered then fine, no apology was called for, but its my understanding that they were upset. You upset somebody inadvertently, you apologise, that's that.
