I have bought a season ticket that will go unused mate. I'm a Blade of over 50 years long-suffering and they can gladly have the dosh but I won't be participating in the one season under Wilder any more than I would under another Bladey favourite like Morgan. I saw Wilder's Oxford team a few times. They were functional at best without any style or flair. He was on the verge of the sack there on a number of occasions and his departure was not mourned by anyone. They now play far better football. Appleton IN! No doubt Wilder had a good season with Northampton but it's been a fucking long time coming and its Division Four, for Pele's sake. From what I've seen of them, there ain't much football there, either. You can say it's been effective but one season does not make a manager and his overall record is completely underwhelming. He's no young up and comer as some people kid themselves, but rather a seasoned mediocrity who has had more than long enough to prove where he belongs. He has and it's Non-League and Division Four.
Adkins has had a very poor season. His CV suggests, however, that he would have turned it round next year. This policy of giving managers one shot or you're out is football lunacy. It's crazy, costs a fortune and is self-perpetuating.
I see nothing whatsoever in Wilder to give me any confidence that my time won't be better spent bringing down my handicap. It's a cheap option, entirely lacking in ambition and calculated to appease the simple-minded section of our support to whom "He's a Blade" is more important than ability and achievement. Remember Quickfix Micky Adams?
It's an appalling appointment, made for all the wrong reasons, and I want nothing to do with it. I'm sure you can all manage without me for a year...
