CONFIRMED Nigel Adkins is gone

Nigel Adkins has failed miserably at his last 2 clubs and left them in worse states than when he arrived. And has now been sacked 3 times.

Wilder has never been sacked and has left his last 2 clubs in very strong positions going forward.

Yes they may be similar in age, but Wilder hasn't been afforded the opportunities which Adkins has, until now. This is a huge job for Wilder and he could very easily go on to achieve more than Adkins. Just because he hasn't done yet, doesn't mean he can't do so.

You omit, of course, Adkins multiple promotions. No doubt it doesn't suit your Bladey agenda. What on earth has Wilder done in a decade and a half of plodding between non-league and division four to suggest that he could "very easily" match NA's achievements?

I would suggest 15 years of mediocrity is a pretty good guidepost as to Wilder's ability. If he was any good he would have been "afforded the opportunities". That's how life works. If he wasn't a former Blade, people wouldn't give him a second thought.

Anyway, you have your standards; I have mine. Enjoy your season with Bladey Chris.

Have you been enjoying your season with Adkins Pinchy ?

Personally I'd say we're in a better state now that last summer, we've shipped out a lot of poor players and we have a chance to build a team/squad from scratch.

How would Adkins career had turned out if he hadn't been the physio at Scunthorpe who just happened to inherit a very good team when he took over form the departing Brian Laws? Very differently I suggest, but he was in the right place at the right time and did a good job.

Has Wilder had such good fortune yet? No. This is his big chance and we should only judge him after he's started. Adkins big chance game 10 years ago, Wilder's is now.

'your' season?? do you really support Sheffield United?

He said, quite correctly, that a significant number of our fans are complete wankers who never get behind the team and create a poisonous atmosphere at the Lane.

He went on to say they were single-celled Neanderthals who would applaud his departure, despite his proven achievements and celebrate the arrival of a Bladey mediocrity who has taken 15 years to become an overnight sensation.

He then pointed out that, given reasonable time, he would likely have turned this wreck of a club around and given us a proper football team to be proud of, but the s2 Hoofitandhope mentality wouldn't permit that.

He advised we replace him with someone, anyone, with Bladey Blade credentials. Preferably someone from the Dinosaur Dave era. He said we should be upanatem and gerritintbox. He said we'd be more comfortable with that.

He then wished the thickest, crudest, most parochial, least sophisticated supporters in football everything they deserve. So do I. It won't involve me.

Just heard another rumour that it's Stuart McCall and not Wilder

More through circumstance than anything else though, players' contracts are just expiring.

He's got rid of Higdon but added Woolford. Given one more month in the job he would have added Hammond to his ranks too.

No mate. Not in the least. I remember, however, Man U fans not enjoying a season with Ferguson and Everton fans not enjoying a season with Kendall.

Adkins' record suggests he would have built a team given a reasonable time. Wilder's suggests we'll go up in 2031....

It's a parochial Bladey appointment. NothIng more and plenty less.

Never thought I'd say it but I've missed you Pinchy

I tend to agree with you about Wilder - he's been managing for 15 years or so and the peak of his career is last season's D4 title - it hardly suggests a young manager on the up. However, Adkins can have no complaints. The minimum SUFC should expect in D3 is a play off place and in our last 6 seasons in this division prior to last season (apart from 13-14 and even then we only failed by 1 place due to the diasatrous Weir tenure) every manager has managed either promotion or a play off place. 11th is completely unacceptable.

Thank you. You are very kind. I have missed people like you too. People with whom I can fundamentally and robustly disagree but maintain a dialogue. Sadly we have an influx to whom that does not apply so as the great Muhammed Ali once said "I won't be back for a while..."

Adkins has 4, but none since 2012.
Wilder has 2 (Oxford into the League in 2010 and Northampton this season).

Strictly speaking, they both have 'multiple' promotions.

What about the non-Bladey agenda of watching possibly the least motivated United team ever to have played at BDTBL?

If a Bladey-Blade gets us playing with spirit, effort and drive then that has to be better than last season's garbage.

The Accrington Stanley manager has never been given his big chance. Coleman IN!

I'd like to thank NA for bringing in Billy and hope that he doesn't make a quick exit in his Panamera to wherever Nigel finds himself next. I'd like to see Billy in a more capable team to help us get up - here's hoping that the summer brings a few players.

Funnily enough, I suppose many Scunthorpe fans thought the same of their physio who had only played managed a team in the League of Wales before replacing their outgoing manager.

until we sack the next manager presumably.. see you in five years time then;)
you never answered my question btw..

Get Dinosaur Dave, Ol' Big Nose and Muckanettles Morgs in as well...Upanatem!

I despair.

Surprised. Wouldn't of done it myself, but you can't deny Adkins has done a fairly terrible job, and has left us in a considerably worse position than Clough. One thing I will say though is that I don't believe Adkins wanted to be here, he viewed the fans in very thinly veiled contempt and I believe when he gave the technical board a piece of paper detailing the players he wanted and on the top of it in big bold letter was Dean Hammond, the board decided to call it a day.
