Nice to read about a player we are linked with that's not trying to come back from serious injury. I understand from someone close to the club that Doyle won't be offered a new deal and it looks like Wallace will never come back on a regular basis.

Scoots IMO will never make a scoring midfielder, last good game he had was against Hull as for Baxter and Coutts, well nuff said. So there is room for the right type of midfielder.

Previous clubs: Newcastle United, Bedlington, Gretna, Barnet, Blyth Spartans, BÍ/Bolungarvík, Alfreton and TB Tvøroyri.

Nick Deverdics signed for Dover Athletic in July 2014 after a successful trial.

A skilful midfielder, Deverdics began his career as a trainee with Newcastle United before joining Gateshead and then Bedlington Terriers in 2006.

His first success came with Gretna during their journey from Division 3 to the SPL. Nick helped the club seal promotion to the top flight of Scottish football and made 26 appearances in the SPL before the club were disbanded in 2008 due to financial difficulties.

Then League Two side Barnet picked up Deverdics and he was named 'Most improved player' in his first season as a 20 year-old, making 51 appearances for the Bees.

Nick returned north to play for Blyth Spartans in 2010, playing 46 games for the Conference North outfit. He came back to the division in 2012, playing for Alfreton.

Uniquely, Nick has had two spells in Europe. First, in 2011, with Icelandic club BÍ/Bolungarvík. In 2013, TB Tvøroyri of the Faroe Islands top flight was his next destination. He scored eight goals in 50 matches for the two clubs.

Deverdics was one of many trialists prior to Whites' Conference Premier return in 2014. He shone through with his creativity and assists, signing a one year contract midway through pre-season.

Personally I think we'll go out on Monday, but I've never been so sure that we need to keep a manager than I have with Clough. Things will come good, it's not worked out like Bristol City for many reasons (discussed to death) but I think the long term strategy is right at United and its with Clough at the helm.

The football we played on Thursday was at times fantastic. It didn't last 90 mins but looking at that and several other games this season (far too few I know), but the potential is there and its with this squad. Looking at the set up and you can see how Clough wants to play it.

We're missing a few key elements, namely centre halves but looking at the midfield, it's fiery good but relies on Basham being in the midfield. How many of us questioned Basham at the start of the season.

In the first half we even looked a physically tall and strong side. That's with a patched up centre half partnership.

Even looking at Davis, I can see what Clough wanted with Higdon, the point I'm making isn't that Higdon has been shit, but the type of player he is/ should be (if he was fit)

Many on here knock players, flynn has been knocked so much but looked excellent on Thursday. Coutts still has a question mark for me, but I have faith.

I also think we've got a lot of players that came to the club for Clough, the number of Clough backers amongst the players far out weighs the brandys and Collins' in the squad, yet they're theones that we beat Clough with...

Get rid of Clough and we have to start again. I personally see that as counter productive.

Fair enough fella, no problem with what you say about Clough. I too didn't really get excited about him coming in but I feel he fits perfectly. His attitude seems spot on, heavily focussed on blending youth and experience and I think he's a straight talker.

The squad rebuild is, as I say, pretty much there. We've done two rebuilds during this season - August and jan. I'm not about to make excuses, we've not hit the target, but I feel the squad is still gelling.

Injuries and poor form haven't helped, again not an excuse but an observation and its led to an unsettled side.

I made a comment the other night to a few anti baxter blades - he's one of the top scorers and among top assists. I like baxter but he's not played a settled role all season and he's not been in form. Kind of says a lot for how poor we've been.

We need baxter and basham working that midfield alongside holt or scougs, but we've rarely done it or been able to do it

So I'm not saying all is rosy, but it's about tweaking what we have.

I've tried to identify what is going to flux that set of players into gaining about 25 more points next season. For he life of me, I just cannot see it. And end of season form suggests we're getting worse, sadly.

It's a good point. My thoughts are:

Davis - good target man and in a settled side plus fully fit he'll get 10 goals. He won't be prolific but fully fit will bring more players into the attack to get goals.

Strong wing play - murphy/ Flynn/ Che/ done will be frightening for opposition teams, especially with freeman/ Brayford and harris supporting.

Link man/ attacking midfielder- a huge positive has been holt getting goals. Think he's better at getting goals than scougs but scougs works better in midfield.

Centre halves/ defence and gk - we've conceded far too many soft goals, especially from set plays. This is the key to getting an extra 12-18 of those points. Soft goals against lower end opposition is where we've lost it.

Our midfield is poor too Swiss. Coutts, Holt, Scougall, Baxter. I can't see any of them making anything other than an above average third division grade. Doyles time is coming to an end. So that's a rebuild of defence and midfield, a hope that Done (who's class) regains his fitness, and some more time to see if Davis isn't another Porter.


I'm happy with the wingers. I reckon Brayford will need selling to pay for the required changes. So if I'm right, it's squad decimation needed.

Coutts also started to show the reasons for the faith. One injury free summer and I believe that we will have a very good midfield with him and Bash.

I'm still not convinced on Coutts but I think over time he'll come good, but I prefer Baxter. I think though that bash is the first name on the team sheet in the middle of midfield, it's then one of coutts or baxter and holt or scougs. Doyle as back up for bash

I agree about Basham. I'd let all the others go. Though for all my criticism I'm not sure we've seen enough of Coutts to write off - just enough to bemoan his 100% inclusion in the promotion push.

Coutts just doesn't look comfortable with the pace of games at the moment, so I'd like to see more of him.

When I've seen him alongside Doyle and baxter he's struggled. Looked good later on yesterday though

edit: Just seen Aberdeen want him. So it's a no-brainer. Stay in Sheffield, no need to uproot and move to a bigger club!
