Latest odds of odds has seen a big change.

Clough still favourite, but Slade disappeared off the radar and Dean Saunders odds are shortening as are Roy Keane's.

Personally I don't want Saunders but is Keane a compromise between get yer arse in gear and proper footy, whereas Clough might be a bit Weiry Weiry?

I think the Board will go with Clough in the same way the FA went with Hodgson, lower risk, but Keane? Doyle and Keane eh.

Saunders' biggest problem is his combination of ambition and stupidity. He could easily have two promotions on his CV to replace the two relegations had he simply stuck it out at Wrexham and Donny rather than jumping ship to bigger clubs.

Maybe he will have learned from this and, if he did manage to turn us around, he might stick it out until the job was done.

I can assure you that neither Mansfield Town or Paul Cox (whoever he might be) would (or are in any position to) tell Sheffield United to 'fuck off'.

If we wanted the mysterious 'Paul Cox' to be our next manager, it would be so. To think otherwise would be rather naive.

His chairman can tho'

And what's all the excitement over Russell slade ? His managerial record isn't exactly great. Yes he is having a good start at orient this season but that's about it as far as I can see.

As far as I am concerned, United need to be considering a lot more than managers that are available right now. If we have got the money that was suggested ("gamechanging" according to McCabe), then any other League 1 manager must be considered regardless of their club. There's only really Jackett that I think we can ignore. So rather than Clough, Saunders, Pulis or Warnock, what about Smith at Walsall, Davis at Crewe or Parkinson at Bradford? Other than mentions for Slade and Robinson, there doesn't appear to be any other League 1 managers in the frame.

Now, I suggest those three but I wouldn't want them. Personally, I believe there are two standout candidates in League 1 who might not be considered immediately as "gettable" but are if the money is "gamechanging" - step forward Darren Ferguson and Uwe Rosler. Both play exciting and attacking football whilst not resorting to kick and rush and, if the money is right and the ambition is the Premier League, they might be willing to turn their back on a short term project at Peterborough and Brentford for a more long term project at United? Without sounding all Wednesday like, we are bigger than both those teams and the long term goal of SUFC is far in advance of their current clubs. Brentford and Peterborough, at best, can compete for top half Championship, possibly a surprise Play Off win a la Blackpool. United, on the other hand, showed in 06-07 that the club could grow in the Premier League and are certainly capable of matching the likes of Stoke and Norwich, maybe further and gatecrashing European football? Long term wise, with the supposed money available, United are a great project for any manager who fancies a gamble.

I'd be on the phone to Brentford about Uwe Rosler. I'd also be having a word in his agent's ear if Brentford tell us to go forth and multiply.

UTB.

Hope not, he's lost more games in his managerial career than he's won. Very average. His record at Derby is about as good as Speed's at BDTBL.

Agree. A 33% win rate in his years there. Piss poor. I've got a Derby-supporting mate and they sound similar to us. Crap managers (Remember Paul Jewell? Eleven points in an entire season!)

They've also got the basis of a half-decent team - Craig Bryson, Conor Salmon, Jamie Ward and Will Hughes but - like us - they flog anyone decent (Hughes will go next).

In their one season in the PL they averaged 30k+ crowds but - like us - lack of ambition, selling any talent etc. has seen them lose around 10k.

Oh, and like us they sign players nobody else would touch with a barge pole - Claude Davis being a stunning example.

Look, whoever we get will not be met with universal acclaim. Managers are a game of chance.

I liked Clough why he works very hard and makes team ticks.

All the money for Barker today. God knows why Schmeichel is suddenly 4th fav other than touting himself for the job in the press.

Good news/bad news - the bad news being that there's no good news.

Blackwell sacked by Bury

Me too, Silent!

What made it even more of a pisser was that I'd booked to go to the World Cup in (West) Germany. Went anyway and had a fantastic time.

I was living in Germany at the time and the amateur team I was playing for in the north of Schleswig-Holstein got tickets for two of Germany's group games in Hamburg. I saw West Germany beat Australia 3-0 and also their only loss of the tournament, 1-0 to East Germany.

On the night England drew with Poland, I was at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg watching HSV and remember the cheers when the England result was announced over the tannoy.

Where have those 40 years gone?

Schmeichel has been on Twitter saying he hasn't applied so it may have been made up in the papers God forbid that papers would make things up
