its clough v Appleton for the job your heard it first.

It's Clough. Announced next Monday.

Hope not, he's lost more games in his managerial career than he's won. Very average. His record at Derby is about as good as Speed's at BDTBL.

Sound's like a Pinchy, Pinchy appointment if true, yawn. Expect stability ....... and still in this league in 5 years time, which is a bit better than we might have got with Weir!

If it's Appleton then it's League two here we come"

I'm surprised we're not getting any big names linked to us how that we have some money to spend in Jan and with the backing of the Prince.

well prince needs to spend just look at Blackburn their owners who said things it never happened.

Current all odds

Clough 9/8, Slade 5/1, Pulis, Keane, Morgan 11/1, Warnock 19/1, Appleton, Barker, Di Matteo 20/1
Of those I would go
1 Pulis
2 Slade
3 Barker
4 Clough

Warnock wont come back and Di Matteo isn't going to come.

They want someone who's going to galvanise the whole place, team, club, supporters. Who'll get 'um scrapping and fighting for everything. I'm sick of tin pot teams coming to the Lane and walking off with the 3 points after abysmal limp efforts from our lot. Let's get it back to what it has been in the past, with the opposition bricking it when visiting the Lane.

For me Pulis, O'Neil or a cheaper option Johnson at Yeovil.

Some were loving it and wanted it to last longer

If only you could rip season tickets up these days !!!

If Clough gets the job it's ridiculous. He only held Derby job as long as he did because of his dad. Derby are capable of the premiership (established) if managed properly. He had years and never managed to even challenge a serious play off campaign (unless I'm mistaken?) When Derby are top side of champ they top 30k... Clough is quite literally a wank manager.. Wasnt even a good player

What a load of rubbish. He's had no money there and the budget decreased year after year. I'm not saying he's a proven tactical genius but you can't judge him on maintaining a mid table team on nothing! If he gets it give him a chance.

Not overjoyed with Clough myself if indeed that is who we end up with, frying pan, fire ...

Has he ever had that much money to spend or that strong a squad? I thought their fans were quite content with him at the helm?

Additionally, it is very depressing that we are having to post next manager odds threads again. (Though I guess no one is forcing us!)

I know it can be done, but does anyone on here think, realistically, that we will go on an unbeaten promotion/ play-off type run with this shower of shit. Whoever comes in their remit will be to keep us in this league, move players in and out and go for a serious challenge next season. Don't care how they do it. Will worry about style next campaign.

Look at his stats! Lost more games than he has won.

Overall his record at Derby is as good as Speed, distinctly average. He slowly improved Derby 18th, 14th, 19th, 12th, 14th when sacked but his record in his first half season is only 1.25 pts/game (equal to Speed/McEwan).

If he comes in and achieves this, it is touch and go if we stay up (but probably just 45pts + 5 = 50). His main problem at Derby was injuries. With fewer injuries he may well have got Derby higher up the league.

Isn't Roy Keane a friend of the McCabes ?
We've had an England captain, Wales captain, and a Scotland captain, so there's only Ireland left....

Derby cut their cloth after losing the Premiership parachute payments and have Clough to thank them for still being in the Championship.

Our efforts at existence in a post-parachute world have seen us end up where we are now. Achievements are always relative.

Not getting Derby relegated to the 3rd division might be relative success to our shambles, but surely we can shoot higher than that. 15 years, one promotion form Division 6. Call me Mr picky....;)

Actually my appointment process would be very simple:

1. Ring Roberto Martinez
2. Offer him the job
3. Hold the line until he stops laughing
4. Ask him who we should appoint
5. Give that person the job.

If you want some quality control at stage 4, ask Laudrup or Rodgers for a second opinion.

Failing that, appoint 'Cox'

Can't believe everyone's missing the obvious candidate - it'll be Di Canio

Lower league success. check
He's a bloke the prince might have heard of. Check
He'll bring all the passion the up and at'em brigade will demand. Check
Continues Blades' tradition of appointing ex oinkers. Check
Will be able to buy half the Sunlan squad as a job lot at Christmas. Not sure if this is a check or not
Complete bloody screwball, so he'd be balmy enough to take it. check

And the real clincher is he's just put himself in the frame. http://www.leaguemanagers.com/news/news-7262.html

Big Ron FFS. At least the sale of Blades jewellery would go up.

Name me the best footballing side in sheffield in the last 35 years ,who by the way played Man U and Liverpool off the park, and it's manager?
To give you a clue we should have lost 10-1 in the semi- final but by that time he'd stopped managing them

Well having read a bit more about Nigel it may be Pinchy that he is your type of manager. It appeared he did bring attacking football to Derby so could be a good style combo. What was a tad disturbing was that Derby didn't seem to draw many games. They either won or lost. Now that might just be a statistical fluke, but thereagain it might indicate a difficulty in rescuing a game that otherwise was ultimately lost or throwing away a game that was won.

By the way who is 'Cox' (other than Arthur Cox)?

And red, white and black has strong fascist connections:). Sure fire appointment. Look out for a major political shit storm if he was.

Paul Cox at Mansfield!
We sounded him out a week or two ago( as did Notts County)
Pretty much told to fuck off.

Absolutely no idea, mate! You are obviously as clueless as I am when it comes to managerial talent!

I can assure you that neither Mansfield Town or Paul Cox (whoever he might be) would (or are in any position to) tell Sheffield United to 'fuck off'.

If we wanted the mysterious 'Paul Cox' to be our next manager, it would be so. To think otherwise would be rather naive.
