Half time thoughts.

Stevens looks rusty, he's been very easily beaten on a few occasions down that left hand side. He's up against the game's best player - Saint Maximum but he needs to do better.
Egan too, looks slow. He had a poor first half against Villa too.

The whole left hand side has been anonymous offensively, we're missing O'Connell today.

Norwood is having an absolute stinker. He does occasionally have these, but against Newcastle this is a lot more dangerous. They're a poor side, but they're good at transitioning & have a lot of pace in behind.

We do not have pace in behind. Sharp & McBurnie up front don't threaten. Everything is in front. Everything is slow. Its too easy for defenders. I can't fault their industry, but it's not enough.
I always beat this drum, but without McGoldrick we're a fraction of the side. He's so good at slowing play down in the final third, allowing our overlaps & overloads. We don't have individual brilliance so rely on getting numbers into the box to score goals. Forget his finishing, he's so important to our play.

If he isn't available, we need to have someone that can fill the void. We might already have that player in Luke Freeman. I've seen him boss games for QPR playing in a free roaming position. I really can't work out why Wilder doesn't fancy him.

If we're not going to replace McGoldrick's role & are going to go more direct then we need to at least pick Mousset. He's fast, he scares people, he gives defenders something else to think about. Defenders drop deep when he's on the park. It gives us a better chance of winning second balls higher up the field.

Basham, Baldock & Berge much better on the right hand side. Berge much better today. His movement is still a little lacking, I can see Baldock's frustration with him - but he's in the game. He does tend to panic when he gets in down the side, choosing to put a cross in without lifting his head. But this can be worked on.

Overall, we're still nowhere near the pre-lockdown levels. Offensively we're struggling, but we're still hard to breakdown which means we'll continue to be competitive in tight games.

I would like to see Freeman on

Don’t think Berge has done much wrong, clearly being played out of position

Don’t think McBurnie has done much wrong either TBF

In the championship we could hurt teams left or right via an overload or through the middle with Duffy/Fleck. Now we’re basically attacking down the right solely...

I think we had 1 SOT in the Villa game and 0 so far in this one.

That tells you all you need to know.

It's almost as if we're missing a key player to attack down the left

Norwood/McBurnie off, Lunny/Moose on

Berge looked lost in that first half. He's not being helped by the fact we're just not at it today. Norwood given it away at least 4 times. Some tackles being shirked. hope Wilder gives them a bollocking and gets them fired up

Berge wasn't great, but he was probably the best of the midfield 3. Fleck was anonymous except when he dropped a couple of bollocks and Norwood had a 5 minute period where he seemed to be playing for Newcastle.

Dunno why people are talking about formations and players. When you are plaing shit, you are playing shit.

Pick Mousset. He's fast, he scares people, he gives defenders something else to think about.
agree.. However I'd like to see Zivkovic given a run out. We need pace desperately upfront - "Local sports broadcaster Fox Sports revealed that the Dutchman had run 100m in 10.96, only one second slower than nine-times Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt"

well played for getting behind the lads...

norwood gave the ball away, what, 3 times? I still back him!
Look I’m behind the team, I always am. Just not seeing anything from our two most expensive signings. I know Berge is out of position and has only played a few games. It’s just the way he is when he gets the ball. He just doesn’t seem to do anything with it.

We are a pale imitation of the team we were before the break. The 3-months' off has killed us.
We play at 'training pace' with no intensity at all. The pace suits Berge as he has no pace or urgency in him. Fleck was a liability in the first half and the lack of confidence is spreading to the overall team passing.
We need a goal to raise our spirit and belief. If we don't get it then Europe will be out of the window as Man Utd, etc. won't be as forgiving as Villa and Newcastle. I know this season has still been incredible but it seems a shame to (seemingly) 'down tools', now?
Big, big half of football coming up!

Come on Blades!!

Of course we are, but we’ve also abandoned a formation that got us promoted. Twice.

It’s a pity we got rid of that formation and moved to this terrible flat three. If only we’d stuck with it, we could have been challenging for Europe, rather than languishing in 7th.

I don't think Berge is an attacking player, more of a holding player in midfield, today he has been one of our better players, can't really fault him any more than any other player, Baldock is different class, and we need more flair upfront, Oh and Robinson shouldn't be overlooked, he's having a solid game.

CAM reintroduction would see us finish the season like a house on fire imo. Surely Chris can see that. Step up Luke.
